Cathedral Pines

4th place Cat2 M/40

Killer event, SWE did and awesome job with the layout of everything and thanks for investing in electronic timing!

I had 2 major problems, forgot the assos and remembered the bluetooth headphone! the 1st problem will heal😀, the 2nd problem dropped my lap6 time like mad and that will never go away! I was 4 minutes off my pace and I missed the podium by 2 mins, and I got chicked, twice by the same chick (I put the phone away and hammered a bit, then the phone and there she goes again... she did have a red/pink #plate tho) On the bright side, my Jungle Habitat technique worked for me again, get the hole shot and don't look back when the course is tight and twisty. I think top 20 into the singletrack is still considered a hole shot in a mass start:hmmm: so we crawled through the very 1st turn and that quick jump up soon after, but smoove sailing the rest of the day! I didn't even have to redline to stay up front on the road probl'y everyone was "pacing" themselves or "conserving energy because it's a frikin 6 hour race man" or something.

PS- HOW ABOUT THE CHILLI!!!!!

Lap times:
Lap 1 50:31.2 13.1mph 11.000 50:31.2
Lap 2 49:01.1 12.2mph 21.000 1:39:32.3
Lap 3 49:25.2 12.1mph 31.000 2:28:57.6
Lap 4 54:40.9 11.0mph 41.000 3:23:38.6
Lap 5 54:33.9 11.0mph 51.000 4:18:12.5
Lap 6 58:38.1 10.2mph 61.000 5:16:50.6
Lap 7 54:47.3 11.0mph 71.000 6:11:37.9

Great day yesterday despite pain in my legs and my bottom😱

I checked my results and I didn't expect to be that fast on 4th lap😀
Lap 4 7:25.5 80.9mph 41.000 3:00:00.0

This is a proof that even with electronic scoring things do happen.

My first mistake was to start the race at the very end of the group...lost a lot of time because of it. Second lap I had decent pace and still was passing people. Third rode mostly solo. Fourth lap was pure pain. As a matter of fact I didn't know what hurt more...my legs or my bottom. After fourth lap i stopped at my pit stop to recover a little and I saw John flying by with big smile on his face. I figured he can't be human if his not hurting. I was ready to quit.
I took some pain killers and start pedaling again. Lap 5 was just survival ride and on 6th lap I just pushed through pain. Actually I enjoyed that lap. I pushed myself more than I think I could take. I guess it's mind over body.

I'll be back next year but I'll make sure to train for it. Weekend rides just don't cut it.
Congrats to Iggy for second place. Well deserved. He passed me at the end of my 6th and this was his 7th and he was flying!!! I want to ride like that.

Pampa, I don't know if I want to race against you next season...If I do I better start training. Congratulation.

John, great job. You ride like nothing happened to you this passed season. Congratulation for 6th place and I'm looking forward to some challenging rides this winter.

I think it's time to get some really light racing bike for next season.

2 questions.

1.What happened to Jshort? He did start this thread.

2. How big a sandbagger is the cat3 guy who did 8 laps? Isn't that the same amount as "the prez"? He would have podiumed in some of the cat 1 groups with his time to boot.

Check out his lap times for 4,5,and 6. Looks like something went wrong with the chip.

Da Prez pulled the second fastest time, missed 1st overall by 25 seconds.

course cutters??

I saw riders scoot under the tape twice trying to be sneaky like, "oh I'm just standing here by this tape waiting for you to go by..." look back and they're gone! that would increase their avg speed a bit. I was so disoriented that if I ever tried cutting the course, I'd end up a mile back going the wrong way:popcorn:

If this is true we need to know during the race. We are all USAC officials and will administer beat downs on command.

This was his first mountain bike race. He races road and , I believe, CX here and abroad. When he registered CAT3 he thought "road Cat 3". He asked to bump up, but the cut offs had passed. He was embarrassed before the race even started.

Great Re-caps

And dead on too.

I thought it was a victory to just survive 6 hour ride. Plus, I really got into the race and was in a "zone" like Capers, for my 2nd, 3rd, and 6th lap.
1st lap was planning and learning, 4th lap recovery, and 5th survival and conserve mode in order to make another lap.

I don't think there is anything personally I could have done any different at my (fitness/experience) level to have shaved enough time to make a significant difference. My hydration and nutrition went flawlessly and I took one pit stop at maybe 90 seconds.

The start was kind of discomboborated... but during the six hours and seven minutes I was out there- I passed people that were slower than me, and got passed by people who were faster. That simple.

There was something absolutely amiss with the electronic timing though: Like Robson- I did one lap in 2 hours and the next one in a couple minutes(or vice-versa). The overall time seemed correct but it does reasonably call into question the steadfast reliability.

It was nice being back on the scene with all you guys.
Robson- glad you didn't quit. You've been motivating me a lot lately and I appreciate it.
Iggy- I'll never catch you, but to know you flatted and still take 2nd place is an inspiration.

Congratulations Robert and John too. I think we were all in the same boat and this was a great first/learning experience. Look forward to race with you next season.

BTW, +1 on the chili. It was GREAT! I was planning to use coffee/red bull to get me through the 2:30 min drive back home but 2 bowls of that chili was all I needed.

Small Dip

in my first lap, almost like a mile into the race, at the turn there was dip, my front tire got sucked in and I did an endo so bad, i could not remeber where I was for a second.

And then in my third lap, one of my friends were so happy to see me, he gooes heyy, and then i got distracted, again another endo. Both were scary falls. I never tasted these two kinds of falls. I dont wanna do again. Mtbikers' happiness is in the agony of it, i guess.

The course was fun, it aint Allamuchy. It felt good not to climb. Congrats to everybody who biked out there.

The idiot that provoked the second crash was me, I have to admit 😱 Emrah was flying and still did everything well to do a good pass on a much slower rider. He let me know he was coming up, waited a bit for a good spot and then made a clean pass on the left. After he passed me I realized it was him so I felt the need to let him know that it was me, so I screamed at him something like "Hey. Great job, it's me Segundo". He was already several yards ahead of me and understood "Heads up" so he turned to look back right where there was a deep dip with several big roots crossing over and took a really nasty fall, over the bars and rolling with bike and everything over the roots. I thought he must had several broken bones but by the time I was there he was on the bike again pedaling while checking his ribs. Then I was glad to see him disappear from my sight.

If I were him, I would have been so pist-off but he didn't say anything at all. In fact, I saw him after the race at the finish line and was laughing at that.

Sorry Emrah!

Hey Segundo: It is all good. I was happier to see you on the trail. We are there to have fun. Great show out there by you, give me a buzz when you wanna ride allamuchy.

Looks like the results have been updated. I went from 10th to now 9th in SS Open. Sweet!

There's still something wrong here.... only worse.😡

The original times had my 4th lap at 2 hours and the 5th lap at 2 minutes.
They supposedly "corrected" the times but just combined the error.
I got gyped out of a lap and dropped six places.

Mr Havoc....Can you look into this please?

both riders looked like cat3 (not the international superstar type of Cat3!) and I didn't have time or energy to report what I thought I saw, sorry. Just look for riders with 80mph lap averages😀

thanks again for putting on a killer race Havoc!

You're better off emailing us at our site. www.somethingwickedevents.com You will get the right folks there.

Please be patient. The timing was done by a third party. We will forward all the concerns. Lap count is of the essence. Lap times may have to finagled if info doesn't exist. Capish? At any rate, we aim to please all and strive for perfection. This was our second year putting on the race and our first time dealing with the timing system. We learned some things to apply next year. The VT50 had me as a DNF this year for weeks. I turned my best time there ever. I know exactly how you feel, as do the rest of SWE. We are all ultra racers. Hang in there Joisey.:getsome:

Congrats John, Steve, Robson and Pampa - sounds like you guys had a great time riding through the pain

Glad we won't be racing (congrats on kicking butt too)

I was sick all weekend so I think I logged as many hours sleeping as you did riding:sleep::sleep::wedgie::sleep::sleep:😛uke::sleep:

Looking forward to racing with you guys in cat 2 next year
