wireless headphones

I have those. Sound quality is horrible.

what sort of expertise do you have?

so $80-$100 solutions don't really meet the requirement of inexpensive. a $3 extension cable, or a $20
receiver might. There is always better stuff....

i like the idea of injecting sound into the environment, not being isolated from it.

If you're anything like I used to be, you'll go through set after set, each time paying a little more because you weren't happy with the fit, or sound quality, or longevity, or sweat gets in them, etc etc. Most of us looking for something to fill a void with something that doesn't necessarily qualify as a 'must have' go through this. Trial and error to see just how cheap is 'good enough'.

I'm of the mindset now that if the cheapest option for whatever I'm looking at doesn't cut it (like say, a sponge or an HDMI cable), then I'm going to spend the premium on the product that I know fits all of the criteria I'm looking for, not hoping my money buys me a product that only fits 1 or 2 at best and be done with it. Isn't that very definition of 'money well spent'?

I've been through a bunch of bluetooth headsets. In the end I settled on "say no to wireless".

I normally have the same thought process as you. Go cheapest or spend the $$.

I don't think they make anything in mono these days.

Yeah they do. A lot if sub $30 headsets are mono. Phone calls are mono and they never built in the correct hardware. They are the electronics from a Bluetooth earpiece burnouts have 2 speakers.

the phone/music player has to transmit in stereo also - A2DP is not ubiquitous.

I agree with this. If you're using the headset to have an actual 2 way conversation, wireless blows. Some headsets sound OK but the mic sucks, or the other way around. But I've yet to find a headset that does both.

Even harder is finding a headset that supports wideband audio. Almost all of my calls are VoLTE, and I'm used to HD voice. When I use a headset the shitty quality really shows.

But for just listening to music on a bike, I only use 1 ear bud in my right ear so I can still hear around me. And the receiver that pat and I posted really does the job. The battery will last 6-7 hours and the quality is good enough.

I should clarify I was talking from a music/ear/headphone perspective, not telephony. $1 earphones I have from china are stereo.

Using to answer calls doesnt matter one bit to me, as I dont answer calls when biking. I do prefer stereo, mentioned mono was acceptable because someone asked. As for converter, trying to get rid of the wire all together. With converter I still have to wrap up the wire and have it hanging somewhere, off the back of the helmet or where ever, and the point was to get rid of it. Seems if I cant find what I want, I may have to try the converter, as maybe what I want just doesnt exist (like purple ponies). So thanks for that recommendation.

See, I dont NEED new ones, I WANT new ones, so yeah I wanna keep it as cheap as possible (under 30). But also want what I want and dont want to settle for less, because then its still money wasted. The wire is just a pain.

I really appreciate all the links to check out different models. As well as feedback on what others have tried and their opinions. All that helps in my searching. Thanks.
am reviewing all the links now.

Those Motorolas didn't work for me with a helmet and sunglasses. Too much going on over the ears kept knocking the earpiece out of my ears. Jaybird Bluebuds are by far the best solution, but not cheap.

Funny, I use those Moto's all the time with helmet & glasses. I guess there are many variables... shape of helmet, shape of head...

A little of topic , since they're not wireless . For anyone who really appreciates the quality of what their listening to , I suggest skipping any ear bud like product and getting yourself a pair of IEM's ( In Ear Monitors ) .
You can get yourself an entry level pair ( one set of drivers ) for $150 plus the cost of ear molds from a local audiologist ( usually around $50 )
They also will do remolds where they take your existing pair , and create IEM's from what you have . If you go this route , you should be starting off with a good pair .

I had a pair of TripleFi10's and had them re-molded with a custom touch to them .
I wear them everyday in the gym , once in your ears , you can hardly hear any external noise . Once the music is on, it's absolute bliss .... assuming your music is of good quality of course .

I provided the "steal your face " image . We spoke ahead of time regarding size and color .

$150 headphones.
