wireless headphones

Arwen's Mom

Mother of Dragons, Breaker of Chains
Need help finding a set, but before I give the basics of what I am looking for, let me say a few things:
I never ever use headphones on trails. Never.
I do like to use them on the road...but before you blast me for that, I removed the foam covers and keep the volume lower so YES I do hear the traffic, other riders coming up on me, blah blah blah

SO
I do NOT want those sound deadening types that cut out all background noise (see above)
I want them to fit around the back of the head.
I want the foam covers to be easily removable (see above)
Waterproof would be nice but not necessary
Affordable

I and the Hubby have done some searching online, but seems all the ones we find that fit the bill either had bad reviews for sound quality or were easily broken.

I dont want to use the wired ones anymore as its just too annoying.
Would like blue tooth enabled so can drop the phone in a pocket or backpack rather than strapping it somewhere and worrying about that darn wire.

Any recommendations?
this is the style I am looking for but in bluetooth

yes, but with ear bud style. check groupon for a set. I got a set of JLaB for like 25 bucks, work great.

I think those groupon ones are mono though aren't they?
I've had a set of S9 knockoffs, S9HD's, and 2 sets of S11HD's
So far the S9's have been the best, but they don't make them any more.
I listen to 20+ hours of podcasts/audiobooks a week. And @stb222 thinks I don't know my useless facts!

are you mostly listening to music or speaking?
I'm considering a bluetooth speaker instead, as I don't like having headphones on when I ride

they may be mono, I have no issues with them, I don't care much about that anyway, cheap and gets the job done.--

that's ridiculous. no issues?
If you are listing to slayer, do you get Kerry King or Jeff Hanneman? You never get both, I dunno if it plays left or right track but that's a damn problem!

I generally don't listen to that kind of music unless I want to kick someone in the groin and laugh in their face while watching them wince in pain

they are stereo- I just checked the website @gtluke

I have these...although I think they stopped making these versions
http://www.amazon.com/Plantronics-B...r=1-32&keywords=plantronics+bluetooth+headset

Love them. Last 7 hours, buttons are super easy to use with my riding gloves on...I can take a call while riding and just tell my boss that im breathing hard because im intensely thinking about engineering...The pause button is great with all of my phone apps...so if im riding and im come up to someone and want to chat, I dont have to grab my phone from my pocket. I use them in my garage alot too if I need to talk on the phone while working. I ride with them in the pouring rain, has not bothered them in 2 years. Im sure most of them have these features, but these have worked well for me.

I've got a pair of those, too. They worked okay, but mine would always need to be re-paired constantly. Maybe I got a bad battery. Mine were the Sennheiser version.

I was just this morning thinking how pissed off I am now that I have 3 sets of bluetooth headphones that kind of suck.

Motorola S9s. - Awesome but the volume button broke and the battery now sucks. Motorola should never have shut down this production line. I refuse to throw them out.
JLab S9 ripoffs - Fuck these people. They're *nearly* identical copies of the Motorola except they hurt my ear. WTF, why not just make exact copies of the speaker part that goes in the ear? They work great until my ear starts hurting. Otherwise they're nice, and cheap.
Arctic on-ear headphones P253BT - On-Ear is super nice while walking or standing, I can't imagine using them on a bike. My only complaint with these. That and I left them on last night on my desk. So when I came out to my car they were still connected to my phone and my car would have trouble connecting until I drove a block away. Good radio on those...

I should just buy those Plantronics, they look nice.

I hate wired headphones for running or biking. While biking they get caught on everything and get ripped out of my ears. In the winter there is somehow static electricity that shocks my ears. Running usually isn't too bad but the bluetooth is much nicer.

The Jaybird Blue Bud X's are just the thing. However, they aren't that cheap. I think you can get them for $140 but they do work seamlessly. They offer control of volume, music and phone calls. They are worth the money.

Thanks for all the info and recommendations..
Pat, Dont want to deal with wire, converter. Phone may sometimes be in bag on bike, so wire to head, nah
Luke, i just dont like the feel of earbuds, but looks like I may have to learn to
I really liked the Arctic ones, but doesnt look like the padding can be easily removed. All that padding cuts out too much of the surrounding sound. I may contact the company about them though.

Some of the others looked nice, but more than I want to pay right now.

Music. Mono is fine too. I tried the speaker. Tried a separate blue tooth speaker as well as used the speaker on my phone. Not only did it not satisfy me, it was rude to my neighbors when I ride through the neighborhood at 1am.

I ride with earbuds on the road whenever in solo or hit the gym.

Tons of advice here I personally have used about 25 different pairs of ear buds from all the big players (over the ear, in ear, wired, Bluetooth) and ultimately the best that I have found in regards to both comfort, sweat resistance, and staying in place are they Jaybird Freedom which I've been using for over 2 years now.

You can find the older versions online for $60-$70.

I have also tried the Bluebuds which are excellent, but I can't justify getting new ones when mine work perfectly.
