Wildcat 100 question

I kinda want to do this again next year to get the 100 in and hope for better conditions and no mechanicals.

Was nice riding with you through the Diarrhea fields. I bet if it was dry, the race would have been a hellovalot faster.

Sucks on the Mechanicals. Chris26er and I rode together until his RD blew up.

I thought it was a pretty good race. The promoter could have done a few small things that would have made big differences (better/more course markings, label the coolers in the feedzones, etc) but overall it was fun. The course was challenging but not grueling.

The weather sucked, not because of the inevitably mud, but because it robbed us of the spectacular views.

I will most likely be back for this one next year.

Yeah definitely some tweaks needed in the organising.

My race was going okay until I flatted on the long road downhill, carpet tack stuck in my front. After that I didn't bother racing anymore, just treated it like a long ride. Couldn't get up any speed anyway on my SS with all the mud. I know I chatted with a few people wearing the mtbnj orange and rolled out of the Lipperman trails with whichever one of you had busted your derailleur.

Thought the freshly plowed field trail was the worst part (orchards ran it close though). Going through that field my bike picked up so much mud the wheels wouldn't turn. I spent an age scraping the tyres with my finger to scoop it off.

not sure if it was me or 26er...I was the good looking, really amazing tech rider. Is your name Bill? I stayed with a guy named Bill all the way to the climb to the 50 mile rest stop.

Good work to push through all of you! A 100 miler is tough enough, but in those conditions with the heavy mud really blows. Time is a wonderful thing, it makes all that hell and misery worth while afterwords. I think I heard someone say it's athletic amnesia. It can be 110% miserable out there and when you finish it'll be "not that bad" and "yea I'll do it again next year" 😉

Nice work to all those who sacked up for Wildcat, even if you didn't get to finish. I saw the conditions up there on Saturday morning and thought I was really glad I wasn't going. Hundred milers are a bear anytime, but in rain and mud they're like a gauntleet with no payoff. Anybody who didn't bail before the start should be proud no matter how their day went!

Just to add insult to injury I'm not listed in the finishing times.

I had the same exact experience. I e-mailed the guy at cool runnings and he made the correction. He found my time and place. It was very frustrating to complete the race and then not see the result, he understood and fixed it. If you send him an e-mail it should be fixed no-problem. Good job! That was a muddy mess and a hard 100miles. First 100 for me. Looking forward to the next one.

Definitely not called Bill 😀
I was in the NYCMTB kit, likely with a white wind vest, on a SS Lynskey.

I think i rode with you alot, was that you that i followed after we made the wrong turn into the field? I remember a the Lynsky and another sser on a misfit.

I saw one nyc guy come through the finish and was mistaken for Bill Christman, and the results still have him listed

There was two of us NYCMTB guys SSing who turned right too early into the field, both coincidentally on Lynskeys.

They've now added me into the results in second place SS 😀

This has been a point of comedy for us for a few days now; Bill Christman was reg'd but didn't race, There's another guy named Will Crissman who did, and his and Bill's results have gotten all jumbled together. Classic.

I said to Gordon sometime time after the 60 mile mark that if marrying my wife was the smartest thing I did, doing this race was the dumbest. A couple of days later I haven't changed my mind. It was tough, really tough. Conditions were pretty bad at times. The rain didn't even bother me, it was the mud. Oh & the pedaling. A 100 miler was on my bucket list. With this 1 being so close & with a bunch of team mates & other fellow riders I know doing it, it was a no brainer. Got up there on Friday afternoon, got everything ready to go for the morning & headed out for dinner. Even had a beer. Got back to the hotel early enough to settle in for the night. The hotel seemed like a good idea instead of getting up crazy early to drive up but it didn't make a difference because I didn't sleep anyway. Stomach was in knots. Typical pre-race stomach for me which was a bit odd as I really wasn't even really nervous for this 1. Up in the morning & force down breakfast. Get to the venue a bit late & have to rush to the start line which is like 2 miles away.

The race. Plan was for the 4 MTBNJ guys to stick together along with the VTC guys. That went to shit as soon as the horn went off. The Chris's were gone, off the front & I lost Capers behind. I saw 3 of the VTC guys & decided I was going to stick with them. Good plan. We lose 2 of the VTC guys & then it's just me & Gordon. It will stay this way for the entire race. Gordon is an endurance guy & knows the course, huge bonus for me. This is where I could get into the details of the race but to be honest it wasn't a super eventful race for me. My Scalpel performed flawlessly, 1 miss shift the whole day. The highlights were Lippman. Some super fun flowy & rocky trails. Unfortunately the rain made it a bit slow going so the flow mostly went out the window. The other cool part was the ripping fireroad DH. It was raining, foggy, fast & it seemed to go forever. After that not much to mention, just lots of suffering. There were boring roads & awful apple orchards, & long draining rail trails. After the 80 mile mark things went downhill for me fast. I just tried to stay on Gordon's wheel. He did most of the work up front & kept me going. We finally get back to the singletrack & I get some energy, then the climbs & mud suck that out of me. Somehow we make it back to Williams Lake & it's over. I couldn't be happier; I finished which was my only goal.

After I heard a bunch of people taking about future 100Mile races & about how addictive they can be. I just don't have that feeling at least not now. It took such a toll on me mentally & physically that I don't know if I'd ever what to do another. But who knows, I said that about Bearscat last year & the yr before & I'm signed up again.

Congrats to everyone who finished or even those that attempted to race this. It was a bitch.

Kirt, how'd you end up 43erd...I thought you came in with Gordon?

No idea what going on. The results seem to be changing every hour. Not that I really care but it is odd.

The reports from this race, and the organization make me realize how amazing the other 100 milers are. If you guys want a real good taste of how a 100 should be register for the Wilderness 101 or the Shenandoah 100. Chris Scott knows how to get these things done and do it right. These organizers need to get their situation figured out. Bad trail markings and messing up results are the #1 way to guarantee that people don't show up next year. Hopefully they get it all sorted out soon.
