Wildcat 100 question

The reports from this race, and the organization make me realize how amazing the other 100 milers are. If you guys want a real good taste of how a 100 should be register for the Wilderness 101 or the Shenandoah 100. Chris Scott knows how to get these things done and do it right. These organizers need to get their situation figured out. Bad trail markings and messing up results are the #1 way to guarantee that people don't show up next year. Hopefully they get it all sorted out soon.

Probably the biggest reason I didn't do this race. Last year I was awarded 3rd place for the two 50 mile stages in the Epic, yet posted 4th overall in the "official" results 10 minutes behind a rider who finished over an hour behind me on the first day and I never saw in the breakaway nor was I passed by on the second day. I had also lost time to the poor course markings. Sounds like this was still an issue from these posts.

+1 on this. I've done a few of Chris's events and have never worried about getting lost or getting timing and placement right or anything else. The small details of his races are whre he excels, too: the rest stops are super efficient and well-stocked, and the pre-race packet pick-up and organization are top notch. The races are all super hard, but that's what you do them for anyway. All the other stuff is handled better than most other races (and because of that, he also has twice as many people at most of his, which makes it even more amazing how smoothly everything goes.)

I think i rode with you alot, was that you that i followed after we made the wrong turn into the field? I remember a the Lynsky and another sser on a misfit.

I saw one nyc guy come through the finish and was mistaken for Bill Christman, and the results still have him listed

That was me on the Misfit. Tough race!!! Most likely the hardest to date. I felt like the course markings were poor. The farm fields and orchards were beyond miserable. Lippman would have been amazing if dry. I'll give it a go again next year.

I said to Gordon sometime time after the 60 mile mark that if marrying my wife was the smartest thing I did, doing this race was the dumbest. A couple of days later I haven't changed my mind. It was tough, really tough. Conditions were pretty bad at times. The rain didn't even bother me, it was the mud. Oh & the pedaling. A 100 miler was on my bucket list. With this 1 being so close & with a bunch of team mates & other fellow riders I know doing it, it was a no brainer. Got up there on Friday afternoon, got everything ready to go for the morning & headed out for dinner. Even had a beer. Got back to the hotel early enough to settle in for the night. The hotel seemed like a good idea instead of getting up crazy early to drive up but it didn't make a difference because I didn't sleep anyway. Stomach was in knots. Typical pre-race stomach for me which was a bit odd as I really wasn't even really nervous for this 1. Up in the morning & force down breakfast. Get to the venue a bit late & have to rush to the start line which is like 2 miles away.

The race. Plan was for the 4 MTBNJ guys to stick together along with the VTC guys. That went to shit as soon as the horn went off. The Chris's were gone, off the front & I lost Capers behind. I saw 3 of the VTC guys & decided I was going to stick with them. Good plan. We lose 2 of the VTC guys & then it's just me & Gordon. It will stay this way for the entire race. Gordon is an endurance guy & knows the course, huge bonus for me. This is where I could get into the details of the race but to be honest it wasn't a super eventful race for me. My Scalpel performed flawlessly, 1 miss shift the whole day. The highlights were Lippman. Some super fun flowy & rocky trails. Unfortunately the rain made it a bit slow going so the flow mostly went out the window. The other cool part was the ripping fireroad DH. It was raining, foggy, fast & it seemed to go forever. After that not much to mention, just lots of suffering. There were boring roads & awful apple orchards, & long draining rail trails. After the 80 mile mark things went downhill for me fast. I just tried to stay on Gordon's wheel. He did most of the work up front & kept me going. We finally get back to the singletrack & I get some energy, then the climbs & mud suck that out of me. Somehow we make it back to Williams Lake & it's over. I couldn't be happier; I finished which was my only goal.

After I heard a bunch of people taking about future 100Mile races & about how addictive they can be. I just don't have that feeling at least not now. It took such a toll on me mentally & physically that I don't know if I'd ever what to do another. But who knows, I said that about Bearscat last year & the yr before & I'm signed up again.

Congrats to everyone who finished or even those that attempted to race this. It was a bitch.

It was great doing this race with you Kirt. Thanks for the company and moral support, you rode a great race!
I did not have as much of a problem with some of the complaints that people are having with the organization of the race. It was far from perfect, but I thought the course was marked well except for one turn going into Mohonk Preserve. The thing about running a course on pubic roads, trails and open multi-use areas is that anyone can pull down a sign or reverse an arrow at any time. Im not saying that definitely happened, but it certainly has in the past. Racers missing turns at NUE races is nothing new. Granted, I did know some of the course, but certainly not all of it. The sections I didn't know, I had no problem following.
As far as results are concerned, as long as they didn't screw up the podiums and prize positions, it's not that big a deal. They should have waited to put any results up online until they got everything straightened out though.
I have done Chris Scott's races, and they are indeed awesome in pretty much every way, but he's been at it for a very long time. This promoter is relatively new at this. Hopefully he'll take these complaints as constructive criticism and put on a more streamlined event next year.
If the conditions weren't so heinous, this course would have been really great. There is some spectacular scenery we didn't get to see on Sat. as well
Having gotten my first NUE under my belt, I've def. got the 100 miler bug, and I'm strongly considering the W101 and/or Shen...as long as it's gonna be dry.

Brutal race, im hooked! Definately looking to do more 100's but with less pavement and farm road and cow poop... My fueling was ok for energy buy not for anti-vommityness. Does anyone know who was the last racer to do the loop after the beers n burgers tent? I can't find any more updated results than "coolrunnings" which is still not corrected and I want to see where I finished if that ain't too much to ask:getsome:

Frustrated about the results only because they said they were going to fix the 100 mile finishers with the 99.9 mile ones... and they havent yet!!! Then again, who cares it was a killer day of riding:drooling:

I was riding with Selene for a while, only way I was keeping up was by not making wrong turns like she did twice!😀 She is a fit chick for sure tho, damn fast when she was going the right way with air in the tires (guess she had a few flats) :getsome:
