Rei!!!!!!!!

EMS does bike repair and sales too. At least in Bridgewater, they opened the bike dept a few years ago.

I got the card in the mail the other day from REI being a member. Their looking for sales people now. Location is on RT 10 and some other road. You might be right. REI is definately a step above EMS. Fantastic selections, all top stuff. Been to several of their stores in Seattle, South Jersey and PA. Bike shops are good. Should be interesting how many local mechanics they recruit. They dont have the best prices like Campmor but they do have the dividends at end of year for members. If anything its a great place to drool. They have everything.

Also, REI gets heavily involved in trails, local communities. I know for fact they have sponsored mtn bike races, group rides, etc. I've been in them. They got tons of cash to back everything up. Should be interesting. Good be great opportunity to get them involved in local trail work which I'm sure they will go full bore on around here.

I've been in EMS, and it's an outdoor shop that's trying to recruit the bike element. But they haven't made a full effort to do so. I once went on a Monday and "they guy who does the bike stuff is off today." The REI article stressed it, which makes me wonder if it's an add on or a focus. Efinger seems to be making it a bit more of a focus than EMS, for instance.

Murray road, as pointed out in the article. There's a Home Depot on one side and a Dick's on the other. The Dick's plaza is past its prime, and we don't even know what's over there. Given that we go shopping up there 3-4 times a month (Manny can tell you what for) that speaks volumes for the rest of that plaza.

bags of rice 🙂 and maybe some fermented tofu???

I just want to say please support your small retailer  EMS/REI are big box and squeezing out small biz. However, I do love EMS but not for cycling specific things.

i went to the rei flagship store on seattle and it is pretty nice. They have a "test track" for the mtb, but nothing you could actually get a good feel for a bike on, but better than the parking lot. While they are better than EMS, the bike shop won't be anywhere close to a good bike-only shop.

Absolutley true. I would never let an REI or EMS come close to touching my bike. They do have the goods to drool over however.

Do they have nickel/dime stuff like cables and small things that you may not want to drive to the World Famous Halter's for? That would be handy.

i guess you don't typical get the warmest welcome when you go into other shops with a halters t-shirt on?

That and I rarely wear pants. So, they can be a little weird with that.

It was just an informational question. I may never go into the REI store.

I also got the postcard.

I actually applied for a position there as a 2nd job p/t. I love my job and I've been there 10 years, but I miss interacting with the public. My expertise is more in lines with skiing, but I do have (I hope) enough limited experience camping and biking.

I'd love to be able to help people make better decisions on ski gear. Soooo often I see soooo many folks on the hill with poor gear choices, or boots that are 3 sizes too big. I don't even care with it pays.

Swung by the REI store tonight since I saw a full parking lot. Unfortunately it wasn't open to the general public. The guy at the front door told me they open tomorrow at 10AM to the public. Since I've never been to an REI I really want to look around. Hopefully I get a chance after work tomorrow.
