From wiki...

Could you explain how the "new" Enduro Race/Scene is run..what makes it different from a regular MTB race?....thanks in adance 🙂
Enduro (ND) is a relatively new format which appears to have taken some inspiration from both car rally and motorbike enduro racing. Mountain bike enduro is essentially the competitive side of the mountain biking format often referred to today as "All-Mountain". It is a stage-race format where the winner is the rider who accumulates the lowest combined time from the various timed sections. Mountain bike enduro competitions typically take place over the course of 1 or 2 days, however, week-long enduro competitions do also exist. A typical one-day enduro race consists of 3 to 5 timed "special" stages which take place on technically demanding, generally descending terrain. These special stages are linked by predominantly ascending "liaison" stages. Although a rider's specific performance on the physically demanding liaison stages does not affect his or her result, the liaisons are often associated with a time-cut off (i.e. a latest permitted arrival at the summit of the next special stage).

World Enduro (dirtbike) has used the timed sections for years it is not a new format, it is not only a great format for the riders, but for fans and media. They also make you change a tire by yourself in an allotted time.

Finally...someone who answered my question..thanks Manny.

Oh MBA is so noted for their "honest" review. Need a roll your eyes here tapafuk. I have graced the pages of MBA since the golden years nothing but industry smoke and mirrors. The only thing that surprises me is they were not riding specialized testers.

A bunch of guys in tights with shaved legs doing a MTB review. Right.

in reference to how 29'ers in general don't seem to appeal to the Enduro crowd Vital MTB has been praising this bike. Has anyone given it a try or have it. (excuse me if someone posted this earlier)

I would imagine any $9000 carbon-everything mtb is gonna ride pretty damn good (it better). Curious to see them compare this to a $9000 26" Enduro. These bikes are in the Enduro series across the pond, it's just no one is winning on them right now. Hence, will not appeal to the enduro crowd. Plus 650b is being pimped hard to the "enduro crowd".

good point. seems its more of a marketing strategy then review

I think FS 29er are good at 140mm max. The largers wheels take away some need for small bump compliance reserving the fork travel for bigger hits.

For what it is worth, Giant now is shipping 27.5 bikes for 2014.

I am giving this a wait and see. 29er has such momentum that it is silly to stop it.

26" wheeled bikes will certainly be a rare sight in a bike shop shortly.

Is it weird that the high end womens HT is spec'd better than the men's? By the look of it, I'd rather get a Tempt 0 than a Talon (27.5) 1

27.5 ... Meh

I just left park city where I rode the new 650b offerings from Giant

They have a bunch if 650b bikes for 2014. (More than any other size). This strong commitment (IMO) comes in part from the fact that their mtb product manger is like 5-4".
The woman's line is all 27.5 These are the best looking bikes that Giant is making for 14' btw

I rode various 29 and 650b bikes back to back. I showed faster times on 29.

The traction was better with 29 as was the stability and momentum

If you are a 26" rider, 650b is all you. Really.

If you are 5-5" or shorter, you should look hard at 27.5

If you love 29ers, I am betting that you will see little value in 640b

There are of course exceptions here, but I left unconvinced on 650b.

My other personal findings:

Ice tech rotors are better than anything in the market
Sram 1 x 11 is the best thing going
Crank bros pedals break always at the wrong time
Schwalbe tires should only be bought in snakeskin
The very best that Rock shox makes still falls short of fox
Nothing rides like a lefty
DH bikes are addictive
Carbon rims make a bike
Small dia grips kill my hands
Never fly American Airlines

Great info jdog
I agree with almost everything except lefty but thats only because its from cdale.

DH bikes are addicting, did they have a 650b offering? Not that i would care cuz i think DH is still the place for 26" wheels.

You have to try the new lefty max 29. It is crazy stiff and it works really well

Based on what I rode, a 650b DH bike would be perfect. I haven't ridden one yet.

You can still get away with less travel with 29er wheels vs 27.5

I rode the 100mm travel 27.5 and 29et back to back. In my eyes 100mm feels great on 29 and in 27.5 it is a little short of right.

thanks for the honest opinion jdog. when do you expect these bikes at the store?

I've been reading through this thread on 29'ers vs 650B, and my response is that both formats have their strengths and weaknesses, and whether your a casual mountain biker or a racer, whichever one makes you ride better and is more comfortable is the right one for you.

BTW, I was at Efingers in Bound Brook today and theyve got a few of the Giant 650B's on the floor and they look really cool. I can't wait to try one.
