All that said, I just wiped a little drool off my chin...😀
Anyone want to buy my DH bike?

That is a sweet looking bike, however for me, after trying alot of different bikes over many years, suspension design matters, and I'm not sold on the Kona design when there are so many more efficient and proven designs out there. That said, if I rode one and liked it, it would be good enough for me.

Yikes. I merely glanced at the shock mounting and assumed it was a FSR/Trek derivative of some sort. But it's really a single pivot. Huh. Doesn't mean it's bad, just something else to consider. Really, really hard to get hands on so many of these to try, dammit.
Can't recall, did you prefer the VPP designs?

I liked the VPP on the Intense bikes I rode. I like DW link the best though. It feels like the most active design to me, with the least comprimises.

Thats what I dont get. The Anthem/Trance 29er are some of the best reviewed bikes out there. I have a Anthem X 29er and at 5'6" (on a really good day) I am the one that the 27.5 is marketed for, but I dont see do not see how a 27.5 could make it any better. Maybe for the enduro/dh crowd they need the newest greatest invention since sliced bread, but since I dont ride that way (yet). It just seems to me that Giant was a little late to the 29er band wagon and is trying to make up for lost time.

And you were unimpressed, for the most part. :hmmm: I could see leaving 26 behind if you are going to concentrate on 27.5, but surprised they would drop 29 as well. It's a pretty gutsy move.

I am a 29er guy. Of late I am ever a longer travel (130mm Trigger) 29er guy. For me and for the trails I like, there is little to gain by going to 27.5

I perceive the 27.5 as the 29er for guys who hate 29ers.

Over the last few weeks I have been suggesting 27.5 to many customers who are shorter and looking for 29ers. They don't want 27.5 either.

I am pretty comfortable saying that we don't sell 26" wheeled bikes any longer and that hasn't been an issue. Where 27.5 lands I can't say. I ordered a few smaller 27.5 and ladies 27.5 bikes as I see that is a good fit.

26 for life ! if it aint broke , dont try and fix it ...

But i wouldnt mind trying a 29er for off season local trail riding , that being said i have no thoughts about a 27.5 and dont plan on it .

I don't get the hype about Giant period. If you want a DW-Link bike get a real one. I demoed a bunch of Giants, and my Turner is in a different league, for essentially the same price. Same result after riding a Pivot, another amazing bike.

OK.. SO let me be totally sexist here:

The ladies 650b bikes look better than the mens to my eye.

The red/Purple Lust was the hit of the show when we saw them. Actually saw a few guys riding them.

I think I finally get it. Its about money, one ring to rule them all. Less sku's mean more money. Less sku's mean more bikes again more money. Also I dont think Giant is selling to me or you, they are trying to sell to the next generation of bike riders who have never ridden a 26 or 29er. I know when its time for me to buy a new bike I will not be looking at a 27.5 so giant would be losing my business, but when my kid get's bigger his opinion has not been set so he might want one, I have have three kids who all ride, so for giant thats a net gain of two

Giant's stance on this leads one to wonder. Would 29er's have come about, or become popular, if 27.5 had been the existing standard? From what I've seen, wagon wheels took quite some time to gain acceptance, and even now get much derision from the DH/Freeride crowd. So if 650b was the norm, would everyone have said, "eh, 29 is only another inch or so...why bother"?

Science!

Or something like it...

I have had a "29er" since the industry first tried it...when they straight up called them what they were, 700 mountain bikes. Back in 92/93, it fell flat on its face. The complaints were the same then that they are now (from those who have not jumped on the bandwagon)...heavier where you least want it, (rotational weight), sluggish feeling with the larger wheels, etc. The things it did better, rollover effects and contact patch was just what some people were looking for. Unfortunately, the industry folded it up after a few years and went looking at more lucrative marketing bells and whistles.

Well, they tried it again, this time they marketed it differently (29er sounds cooler than 700c I guess), tweaked it a bit, and I guess it stuck. So guess what...they are going to go at it again with 27.5/650. I see a lot more benefits vs. drawbacks with 27.5 than 29er...IMHO, I would rather see the industry go 26" and 27.5/650, but it looks like it will end up being 27.5 and 29.
In fact, I think I agree with extremedave in a way...if they did 27.5/650 first/last time around, would 29er even be considered now?...

If you look at the info in this pdf. file, that was supplied to us Giant dealers, I think there is some strong evidence that 27.5 gives a lot more than it takes. At least try it, and see for yourselves...

Looks like they upped the travel on the Trance to 5.5in and added an even bigger SX version. Is the Reign gone?
