Stephens State Park Conditions

Dear Mr. McNutt,

Thank you so very much for taking time out of your schedule to do trim work at Stephens. kudos! Bravo! I can't wait to get out there and check out your work! You deserve an icy cold bucket of suds for your efforts. If I run into you out on the trail.....I'm buying!

Sincerely,

Don't ask me why, but after reading about the condition of pink I decided to do some trail maintenance yesterday. The right side of pink is well trimmed and the center is pretty much there as well. It was ungodly humid there yesterday and I think there's a tiger mosquito convention as well.

Yes...a +1 on the thank you's!!! I was hoping to squeeze in some TM as well at either SSP or North.

Was out at Stephens after work and noticed some love within the Tilcon Lake trail and on the Pink Maze. It's not quick 100%, but a HUGE help. Thank you to the party(s) responsible for this act of kindness.

Any way around the orange climb? that climb is just stupid. something like 450ft of climbing in .7 miles. Anyone know anyone that can even do that? I'm gassed just pushing my bike up that monster.

Yeah take the road along side ranger station. Follow road past gate to stop sign. Make left and follow around development to where you see power line tower enter there and trail off the left leads to upper white.

I ride over from Kinney and do the pink Maze over to White. The climb up White is long but very gradual. You can then go back towards Stephens and ride the white and blue over there. Head back out white, green, purple to catch the unnamed trails. head back to the pink maze to finish things off. great ride around 17 mi with 1600-1700' climbing. That orange climb is serious but the descent down it is sweet and a Strava segment.

Pattys virtual ride today as we speak

Trails great today. I had the need for something different,,,A totally new adventure..So started from ranger station off Waterloo Rd... haha.. had SS, so headed up white & hiked a bike. No idea where to go..was surprised to get to familiar pink, so then did lower SSP to tilcon & back on dirt road which led back to park. Made totally different backwards loop.Trails were great!! (10.5 mls.) Some new trees down, but thanks to whomever is doing the TM there.. Great work & much appreciated!! Getting out to the Tilcon Lake was such a beautiful sight. It made me feel soo lucky to be living & riding in such a pristine place. : ))

We were out there late this afternoon. There were 1-2 inches of fresh falling snow on the trails. Traction and riding conditions were great, and the new snow fall made it a super experience. Go out there and enjoy this.

Upper will be fine that being said there is no way lower should be ridden at all...

March 22 conditions

I rode here today in the one corner of the park. Ride the red trail from the small parking lot over to the main and then orange all the way up and around and down to the small parking lot....the parking areas would tell you it's muddy and would be horrible to ride but I'm here to report that it was firm and I had a great ride....short and sweet... Happy I took the chance and got out there...now to deal with a horrible chain slipping under pressure issue

I'm guessing it was firmer due to higher altitude ie water draining to the lower area and the cool temps today there were very small amounts of snow on the orange trail...just here and there ....also there are some serious trees down on the trail that are in need of some chainsaw action

I live in the area so I don't know if anyone noticed but if you look aroun just about everywhere around here right now just about all the snow is gone everywhere

I take this report with a grain of salt. The area he speaks of is by the ranger station south end. I have no doubt that the upper part of the park is solid but to give the ok for the rest of the park does not sit well with me. The lower part and maze has to be absolutely dreadful and I am hoping all will give it it's chance to dry before destroying it.

i rode here today...i started in the main parking lot and it was 100% clear of snow until you hit the 3 tier climb which is about a mile and a half(u could go back and forth 10 times and get a nice ride in😎). 4" +- of snow on white and pink trails all the way to the end of the maze. there was some patchy spots on the lower maze that you can ride but i hiked most of it. its thick dense snow that will probably take a couple more weeks to melt

Great conditions!,,,for 1 day..,

Thursday night was awesome at Stephens south, near ITC,Firetower,Lozier rd. Dry and fast,,,quite a few leaves. I had a nice 7 mile ride at about 11 mph average. I guess I timed that just right,,, Did anyone else get to enjoy that day out there?
