Open Discussion: The Rules

How will newcomers be informed of these rules??? Sticky on their thread or some sort of auto pm set up???

Look 3 posts up:

A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away, we considered posting rules, but for some reason we thought it better not to do so. This may have even been before Jake and I took the pink slip on the site.

Once they are hammered out, I will E-Mail the entire community linking to the rules, and add the link to the "welcome" message from Jake that is generated during the registration process.

I don't know what the welcoming email looks like, but what about it containing info about the general demographics of the sites members(ie, more mature, for a lack of a better phrase). Maybe something stating that unlike most forums that allow a certain "un PC" type room, that this site doesnt have one or allow room for it.

In my words, let the trash talkers know before hand that this is a (somewhat) respectable place and that the immature bs wont be tolerated.

i've lurked around for a couple years before actually starting to post frequently, mostlly because i had nothing worth while to add to anything, but always thought it was pretty tame here.

perhaps i don't spend enough time on-line.

these rules all seem like common sense, it's a shame you were forced to actually sit and make a set of "rules"

Box Luke he hates on tights! I was in the box once maybe more, but first time it said 99 years 😱 + rule #* no pictures of skidding. This forum is great, most posters know or have met eachother in rides. I keep the private banter in Facebook land. Wasn't there a fb thread at one time?

Norm tried to threaten me with a no-roading-bashing rule.
The term Usurp Synapse came to mind.

It was just a Luke rule. You can mock what you don't understand all you want though since you've got someone of a loophole since we text. At the same time, texting me that I'm a roadie fag isn't going to get you much cushion. Just keep taking pretty pictures of me looking like an ape and we're solid.

You hit the nail on the head. In our experience, the lurkers usually don't post because they feel they have nothng to contribute at the time, not because they are afraid of being abused by the management.

The rules are a good thing. For the most part the site polices itself with an occasional nudge from one of us. Getting thrown in the box is really a rare event. However, when it happens it usually involves a lot of brain damage behind the scenes answering E-Mails, PMs, texts and smoke signals. The reality is we wil probably continue along as is, and if someone gets boxed, we can point to a rule and end the discussion.

When these are baked, you can put them (or the link) in the TOS (see link at bottom of page) as well.

And jeez, Normie, I was disappointed not seeing an exclusion rule for me. Something like the "Hammer Us in the Po-Po Exclusion: For anybody who could make everyone's life miserable on mtbNJ with two key strokes or less" or "Slave Labor Exclusion: For those non-site proprietors who've provided labor to the three Amigos for free, or for minimal *favors* from Shaggz" or the "Save Our Bacon Exclusion"...self explanatory 😉

'Just kidding 😀

Jeez tim, I didn't even think we had to mention you? 😀

Here's another point about this place that differs from other i-environments: if you ride a bike in this state, eventually you will come across someone on this forum. It's not like a big, faceless national forum where the likelihood of meeting some one is small. Here it's just a matter of time. Basically, if you are an i-douche eventually you'll have to deal with someone in real life. Unless you sell all your stuff and move to California. True story, BTW.

Another thing to keep in mind when you post things.

Yeah really Tim. That would be like telling the man behind the curtain in the wizard of oz that he has to pick up the oompa loompa poop.

That would be odd indeed. Oompa Loompas live in a chocalate factory 100's if not 1000's of miles away from the wonderful land of Oz. The poor guy only has a hot-air balloon, the logistics would be a nightmare. Unless maybe now that the wicked witch is dead, the flying monkeys could be looking for work. Besides a short gig in a Protest The Hero music video, times are tough for them.

Nothing against Matty of course but I was way more impressed with Jim's analysis.

Yeah but that's just because he quoted you so you get all excited. I'll grant that it was also well-done, but Matty went all Dan Brown on his reply.

Back OT, I added 4 new rules since yesterday:
http://www.mtbnj.com/wiki/The_Rules#The_Rules_Defined

Numbers 12-15

Trolling is standard Internet policy, as is Beating a Dead Horse. I've add the next 2 as a tip of the cap to our current Ban Leader. The first (Woe is Me) is in anticipation of his return today/tonight. The second (The Passive Aggressive) actually describes his offense in a better way.

This thing is going to be like 48 items long soon.
