Open Discussion: The Rules

Just to make this clear, Do these rules apply to everyone?

They only apply to small children and the elderly.

And google gives you all the NSFW you ever thought you wanted, if you're into that kind of thing. Having a "private" area (secret or not) would cause more problems. I used to frequent a forum about 10 years ago and someone spilled the beans that there was a private forum that only certain people were allowed in. Once the general population found out the place fell apart.

I have to agree with Walt. Car forums often have massive amounts of geek areas and usually one free for all forum. There are plenty enough areas that are loose on this board. There was a "shit talk" forum on an old board that luke and I were part of years ago. Even to total "regulars" it was the most ridiculous nonsence you could imagine. I mean the gnar crap was a night at the theater compared to it.

We'll I'm a firm believer in the philosophy of a ruling class, especially since I rule.

exactly.

sort of. they don't apply (in most cases) to myself, norm and steve. but that is only b/c we walk on water.

but these are all very fair. we don't not encourage goofing off. i mean, this is a website about riding bikes for god's sake. we aren't curing cancer. blow off steam. if you want to start a thread about it, go ahead. post nonsense. whatever. just don't get too out of line.

personally, i will have ZERO tolerance for anyone that derails a thread in the women's forum. if you have nothing constructive to say, stay the F out.

oh, trust me joe. you have NO idea what used to be in the depths of mtbnj.com. it's gone now, which is good thing, b/c it was pure poison.

Are you concerned about anyone in particular?

I suspect that we will not be whipping out the ruler to crack knuckles. However, this gives us something to point to when someone is sent to the penalty box, so as to avoid public discussion and debate.

The reality is not many people have been sent to the box and even fewer have been permanently barred from the site, considering the number of posts and amount of time we have been around. Most people that have been sent to the box realize why they were put there, and rarely does it come out of the blue.

Out of pure curiosity when was the site started? Earliest posts I can see are 2004

9/30/2004. Can't quite remember when the the three stooges transitioned ownership, but it was some time after that.

We had that at one time, and I still take sh!t for it. As a matter of fact it was thrown at me again last week 🙄 The site has really evolved over time. Like it or lump it, Norm's moderating style (and to a lesser degree, Jake's and mine) works here. Believe me when I say that the leashes are a lot longer than ppl think they are.

Late summer/early fall of 2007 it went to Steve and Jake. Then they brought me in as a headhunter to lay off all the emplyees that winter. I saved the company 15 million dollars with my budget cuts, so they let me stay on as a partner.
