MCBP Opening Day

Hey guys,

The grand opening for Mountain Creek is Saturday, May 5 at 9AM. I thought I'd start a thread to get roll call going. This will be my first time riding downhill, but I'm hoping years of MX will help me out some. If there's anyone here that knows the mountain and wouldn't mind showing a few of us around, that'd be appreciated. I know there are a few other first timers here planning on going, so don't be shy!

hahah ill be there for sure, me and a buddy of mine ... Im new to DH and MCBP .. But ill be popping my cherry this weekend up at Plattekill this saturday ! 😛 ..

Just remember to take the first day slow; even if you're having fun and it all seems easy. Getting too far ahead of your ability (it is easy to do on a H bike) on unfamiliar trails is how legs get broken. =)

Haven't been to MC in a year or 2 but losing your DH virginity at Platty is the best way to go...love Platty

Crud...have a wedding on Saturday. Soon!!!
Should probably go at least LOOK at the DH bike and see what's gonna fall off:hmmm:😀

Edit: aedubber, you have a trail bike too or just the Kona? The Operator is awesome looking btw.

I have a HT i mess around with on the more tame trails.. I had the Operator out on top of Skyline dr 😎 ride/hike a bike session lol . Ill probably pick up another fs trail bike after DH season is done .

i didn't put two and two together that you pulled the trigger on the operator. how was it up at skyline? care to give a quick new-bike-stoke review?

HAHA no problem, well the bike is HEAVY but its a tank. I took it all the way up to the look out point and back . Handled everything easily , only problem is trying to pedal it lol but i figure it will help me be a better climber to right? 😀

I mean the bike is a beast, the handling is really nice and slack . The bike is extremely active and coming from air to coil, i love the coil feel . What i noticed was if your going slow or a moderate speed the bike wont feel good, but once you start picking up speed and abusing it, then it comes alive and acts like a DH bike . Everything feels so good and perfect about it .For now im working on small jumps/drops but i will be pushing myself to go bigger and bigger .For a first time DH bike and will be my first time to do DH i am impressed with the bike and glad i bought it .

I love the way the geo is on the bike as it reminds me of my enduro comp in a way but obv way more burly etc . I plan on getting a cartridge replacement from Craig @ Avalanche for the fork and then upgrade the rear shock too with a Ti Spring on it as well and then eventually try to shed a few pounds from the bike if i can . Im pretty excited and the bike works for ME . I plan on taking the DH and FR session classes up at Highlands this year to really understand the sport and learn proper riding technique etc. i think it will make me a better rider in many ways including mentally too 🙂

I also picked up a new bike rack ! This things is SOLID and no comparison to others :

nice - thanks for the review! sounds like it does what it's built for: full-time descending. good for you taking it out on the trails tho. no harm or foul for giving a bike like that a push if you have to, but if you can pedal it to the top of the something all the better.

btw - it looks nice too. take it easy up at platty for your first time. when you get in over your head it happens usually instantly, so you won't have time to dab! it's better to have regrets on your first day for not trying something/pushing the speed limit than to have regrets for losing out on an entire season because of an injury.

Nice bike! So true about handling. If you don't ride it hard and fast enough it just doesn't feel right. For climbing and playing on XC trails try throwing some clipless pedals on there; that's what I do for riding at Blue Mt.

Gotta get a newb DH group ride going...

Sweet ! Thanks for the heads up and compliments 😉 ... Yes , I'll def go easy first few times to get used to everything .. I got all my armor and everything I need ... I'll have a short film too when I get back.

Cdub: your more then welcome to meet us up there if you want ? I'm planning on being in the road around 9am .. It's a good 2 hour drive for me up there . We're going to see who leads who on the most crazy trails lol since we don't know any trails at all haha ..

This x100. Don't go home with an ankle looking like mine did last year:

I'm heading up to Plattekill saturday (tomorrow) too. Better dress warm it's gonna be below freezing in the morning and not get out of the 40s all day!

I fell off a rock bridge at MCBP; caught my shoulder on a tree and I bounced off a big drop sideways. Landed with one foot on an incline and POP. Fractured tibia and class 2 sprain. A year later and ankle dorsiflexion is only at 90%.

Found out later people were getting hurt on that section daily and they shut it down for good.

Point is, take it slow no matter how fun it is and in control you feel. Like someone else here said, it very easy to quickly get in way over your head.

It should be ten times better then what the diablo crew did or well attemted to do last year. Me and my buddy matt will be there all weekend. Should be lots of fun be safe and make sure ur bikes are ready to go...

Ahh, the good ole Chute de Chatum.

Anyways, I will be headed up there on Saturday also. 3 years riding experience up the East Coast, so I'm sure i could some of you all along. My suggestion is no drops on the first day.
