im back and i want to ride!!!

dude you can get the fork rebuilt that's were the shock is if you check on the internet i would think you can find a place or a shop to get it done. is the headset 1.5" you might be able to get a lefty for it. does the frame fit...or is it too small

hhhhhm ill have to look into getting a lefty for it. i did some research and found some info on servicing it. think ill take a look at the shock tommrow. http://www.fastglass.net/bike/headshok/repair.html

and as far as size of the frame goes. Im pretty sure it fits. it was originally sized for my dad who is the same height as me. (6'3). so it fits good for me. but i think ive got longer legs. i measured my inseam and its 35.5. not sure if it a large or an extra large

Wow I am pretty slow but I think he is selling his MTB I think he is turning into a true roadie 🙂

That's a real shame. The road sucks monkey balls. Well, technically the road is fine. It's the multitude of clueless asshole drivers filling the roads that suck monkey balls. That, and the road is boring. But, that's just my opinion.

Chainsaw - if you end up parting the salsa out I would be very interested in that pretty green frame of yours. As long as you price it to sell 🙂

if you are trying to save money the LAST thing you should do is build the bike from the frame up. You're gonna end up spending way more buying it piece by piece...unless you REALLY know what you're doing. Then, even if money weren't an issue, building a bike piece by piece you have to be careful....headset size, bottom bracket compatibility, seat post size, clearance issues with wheels, etc.. Seems to be me like your a novice when it comes to this stuff....don't make the mistake of trying to build a bike from the frame up.....especially if you think you will save money. Just get a new bike. If money is an issue - CRAIGSLIST!!!!!! Or just be patient and wait for a bike that would fit you to pop up on here

im just really really bad at saving money. id love to build something from scratch. to me that a lot of fun. and i got the time unless something major goes on the bike. when it comes down to it the bike i have is fine. id just like another. i feel confident enough build a bike myself except for installing the headset. (that scares me for some reason) so as of now ill ride what i got. and im on the look out for a large 29er frame!!!!

Send me all of your money as you earn it. I will hold on to it for you.

As Wonderturtle has said, you will likely encounter issues and end up spending more money trying to fix little issues and buying/replacing parts to fix those issues, esp if it's your first time building a bike.

You will also need a lot of tools to do it right. Otherwise you will likely end up breaking and stripping stuff. If you really want to do it right, you might end up spending more money on bike tools than on the bike itself. If you don't have certain tool, like headset press, you could take it to a bike shop and ask them to press the headset in for you. They will probably charge you. Then you will have to take it there again because you don't have a bottom bracket tool. And a cassette tool. Then a chain breaker. And on and on.

Having said this, my #1 rule in life is that not everyone is created equal. You could be an mechanical genius how the hell should anyone that has not met you know. If you really feel compelled to build a bike have at it. Some people enjoy doing this type of thing. Just don't come back and say no one told you so.

Also, you are just posting up frames. You are just looking at the frame price and thinking, wow I will save money. Usually, the rest of the bike end up costing far more than the frame. Make a spreadsheet. Add up all the parts. You will see why everyone tells you building a bike costs more money than buying a complete one.

For example, let's say you want to build this bike:

http://www.pricepoint.com/Brand/Sette/Sette-Razzo-X7-10-Speed-29er-Alloy-Mountain-Bike.axd

frame = 250
fork =~ 270
wheeset =~ 250
tires =~ 76
crankset with bb =~ $130

I'm already at $976 and I haven't even added in: shifters, front derailleur, rear derailleur, cables, brake levers, brakes, cassette, chain, headset, handlebar, stem, saddle, seatpost, grips, tools, and I'm sure I'm forgetting something.

went outside and measured my frame its 21.5 from he center of the crank up to the seat post hole. if i measured right.
