which phone to buy, moving out of Iggy stone age and into smartsville.

No Iphone wanted so don't bother, yes Norm I have an apple daughter.

HTC
Galaxy
Ultra/Maxx
other

Ease of use a plus, as i am not good about reading instructions.

The newer versions of Android are much more refined and pretty easy to use. The different manufactures apply their own skins over them, but the user experiencefor the most part is the same across different brands of phone.

Get a Maxx. You'll be thankful for the battery life, 4G phones guzzle batteries. Motorola phones typically have better antenna's as well, so you'll actually get the service you are paying for.

Motorola Maxx. My Verizon contact recommended it as did Consumer Reports. Fast, reception is good, and long battery life.

I did want the maxx until the cost of one, verizon dude tells me you only gain a small bit of life over the others not sure how true that statement is. HTC1 was interesting because of the beats sound system with beats buds. Though the camera was less then others which is not a deal breaker for me.

Galaxy SIII or IV, then go to amazon and for $10-$20 you can get 2-3 spare batteries that come with a little wall charger. No idea how long my phone would last on a charge, never tried it. Always a full day unless of course im using it as a mobile hotspot which uses alot of power.

What network are you planning to use?

If Verizon, then my vote is either the HTC One or the MotoX. My contract is up and I'm trying to decide between those 2 phones. I find the Galaxy phones a bit too big for my liking.

yes verizon and i too find the galaxy big plus my buddy has broken it twice in 2 drops. Battery on htc has good reviews.

I like the idea of having multiple batteries and swapping them out. I've done this with all my phones in the past.

I got the MAXX a year and a half ago. The battery life was stellar in the beginning. But after 18 months, it is half of what it used to be.
The problem with the MAXX is that the battery is not removable, so I'm stuck with what I got.
It used to last 2 full days. Now it lasts about 1 day, less if I'm using it a lot, or in an area with bad service.

aint nothin good come from them smartphones.

well except for when utah used his phone as a hotspot so we could get internets this past weekend, and then located that brew pub on his phone saturday night, and got us directions home from VT while streaming the chris rock comedy special.

F it get a smartphone, for now I'm just gonna hang out with people who have smart phones.

Galaxy Note 2, though a new one is due out I think.

Big battery is why I got it mainly and the big screen really got to be a nice thing. I use it as a GPS all the time in the car and the screen is nice for that.

First Android of many where the GPS is reliable enough to use and the battery life is great on it compared to the smaller phones.

If Sprint had the generic Google phones, and they had large batts, I'd go that way. A Nexus series phone is great because you actually get the updates without having to bother rooting. The Samsung base build is a bit annoying but at least has been pretty usable and stable.

I have the Lumia 920 windows phone and with the exception of a poor amount of popular apps I really don't think I want to ever go back to google phones. My battery life is great, the UI is the best I've used and the screens are the nicest looking, to me anyway. I never cared for the little uniform box icons on droids and iPhones. I'll probably get the 1020 soon. I have ATT

i picked up the new Droid Mini, best bang for the buck for what i was looking for (cheap with a good CPU). I love it for everything except the non removable battery. Easy fix though i have chargers at home in car and at work just in case. Overall battery life is good and if i need it to last longer i will just turn features off. Phone runs amazingly smooth, display is crisp and overall size is ideal for me. Slapped it in a otterbox defender and boom done :getsome:
i picked the mini over ultra/max as i didnt feel they justified the extra $$

To me, the cost of the phone is kind of trivial. My point is, that your signing up to a contract for $30/month for data x 24 months = $720. That's just for the ability to get data, so your minutes and texting are on top of that.

Whatever device you choose, you'll be stuck with for 2 years while you're paying down that debt. Make sure you're happy with your choice. Who cares if the device costs $99 or $199 or $249 when your married to it for that long.

HTC one is the winner and it looks like it will take the whole 2 years to figure out...

I've been using the One for a few months and it's pretty nice. I've dropped it a few times and it's survived without a scratch. More than you can say for a Galaxy phone...
The sound is also one of the best features... both with and without a headset.
Battery life is impacted by so many things..... you need to watch what you install. Certain apps with constantly ping the network and drain the battery. And if you're in between 3 and 4g, the phone will keep bouncing back and forth and drain fast. 4g only phones are a ways out

you could wait 6 months and buy a Nokia windows phone.. now that Microsoft bought them things are going to change..
