Going Long and Hard.

I think I caught most of what you said. Those second tracks are west of Rt206 and turn north aimed at SMP. It looks like a straight shot across Belle Mead Rd and then over East Mountain into the westernmost portion of SMP. Have you ever done that?

I actually had to be home today so I didn't have time to explore it as much as I would've liked to.

-Jim.

I think those are the tracks that used to go into the mine in the sourlands. The active tracks are further south just past Grandview/J&J. I gotta try these rails - I go over them all the time

this track crosses a field and as much of the pipeline that could be ridden from 206 into smp. north of mountain view road is belle mead depot - the track siding you followed (also a pipeline, and the new 206 bypass) would cross there - its that "site 5" parcel - to the west of that is the depot - tracks leave from the north.

my northern track home from smp is along a pipeline cut, that picks up the old rail bed (which parallels the existing one) - north of amwell road.

http://www.strava.com/activities/93382809

from the starting point in that activity is a paved path that weaves its way towards 6MR - some road in there - wouldn't be if we could convince the farmer across from blackwells mill rd to let us cross.

---------

here's something using your train track route - and a different track to moutain view - was picking up the powerlines off the train tracks and broke a hanger - heading to 6mr.

What exactly are you following on the first link?

-Jim.

From the starting point, there is a field-side trail that goes into the woods and picks up a jeep trail. it comes out at the construction area for 206 bypass (they had just started the work) - then pick up the pipeline to SMP - went through some back-yards between 206 and pleasant view road - won't do that segment again. (anxiously awaiting belle mead depot opening) then the pipeline into SMP

leaving SMP, go straight across the street pipeline/fieldside train, to pick up a smaller pipeline cut heading to the north. it crosses mountain view, well defined - looks like is sees quite a bit of moto/jeep action - you know those hillsboro types🙂D😀😀)

My son was accepted into the People to People study abroad program and most of our funds will be going to that, putting me in a position to skip racing for 2015 and train specifically for Iditabike 2016.
Yeah, this is super-cool! You should be proud for sure.

Oops. That’ll put a dent in my race budget.

Damnit!!

Well, my car got clipped yesterday morning. I parked it in the lot and rode to work as I didn't have time to inspect the damage before work.

When I got home I spent a good part of the night stripping the front end apart and cleaned up all the broken tabs and whatnot. All of the damage was just in the bumper clip and my hitch rack was bent up pretty good.

Got up early this morning and put everything back together so the car is driveable. Most of the lower clips are broken so it's kinda just hanging there. I'll need to do a replacement before track season starts but for now, it'll do...

Tuesday.

HbMTB ride. Big group this week with 8 of us on fat bikes 😀

The ride quickly split into me and Chris and...That's about it. We somehow kept running into the rest of our group but then they would just get dropped again. Super fun. Super fast. Super fat. My legs felt pretty darn good after my recovery week.

Wednesday.

Today I raced in the first annual Hb Beer Mile. Was interesting because A) I don't drink and B) I don't run. Luckily for me there was C) Snow and freezing rain so I was at least in my element.

I teamed up with my co-worker, who also doesn't run, but he drinks. We ended up doing a relay of sorts. He drank, then I ran a lap. It was a good system.

We also all dressed like idiots. Our team ended up in 5th place with a 9:36, not as horrific as I thought we would do. So I've officially run a single mile this year. That's enough.

Thanksgiving.

Short wet ride this morning before the Tofurkey. We didn't get any snow south of Rt22 so it was just wet and muddy. I was only out for an hour. Hopefully it dries up a little before the weekend so I can get something big in...

-Jim.

Friday.

Commute into work on the fatty all loaded up. Nothing too much else to report there.

Saturday.

Parked in Old Bridge and did another beach ride.

Rode the bay side up through my hometown area switching between the Henry Hudson and the Beach.

Then hit the Bayshore Trail through Highlands and into Sandy Hook. Did a loop around the hook, sand conditions were nice and firm.

From there I headed over to do Hartshorne and Huber before jumping back on the Henry Hudson for the trip back.

Congratulations! Let me know where he will be; I know some folks around the way and in some places.

Happy B-Day, Jim.
Great pics. That last one would make a great bazillion piece jigsaw puzzle.
And congrats on your son's acceptance but isn't he like 9 years old or did I blink too hard?

Lastly, your thread is not helping me convince myself I don't need a fat bike.

Thanks and poop.

Sunday.

Headed out to Chimney Rock to round out my week.

There's was still some snow on Yellow so I spent a bunch of time over there.

The new trail on Orange is sick. It'll be nice to loop this section back into my route. After that it started to thaw and things got soupy. By the time I got to Blue I was riding in like 6 inch deep mud. Much suckage. Then I flatted. And then I flatted again. And then I flatted again. My rear tire lost it's seal and I couldn't get it to re-seat to save my life. I walked my bike out of the park and my wife rescued me.

Ended up with just over 3 hours, 1/2 an hour short of my goal.
