Going Long and Hard.

Friday.

Pull your derailleur pulleys off the derailleur. Pry the bearing seals off. Clean everything out of there with WD-40. Put one seal back in. Fill the bearing with green Dumonde Tech. Spin it to work it in there. Replace the second seal and re-install it into the derailleur. No more seized pulleys...EVER. This will be my 4th season on the same pulleys, plus countless winter training miles. Do it. You'll thank me later.

Try the Dumonde Liquid grease. It is awesome in pulleys.

I loves me some liquid grease. I always seem to go one step lighter in every application though.

Hillbilly Hustle.

Holy sweet jesus. Welcome back cyclocross!! I'm not entirely sure what to write here other than this...Definitely going back to my standard training plan and ditching the Hunter Allen program. My overall endurance and power has dropped and I'm pretty sure it was very obvious. Being able to sprint for a minute or 3 doesn't mean a god-damn thing in the A's. I sprinted for over an hour!!

Going back to my original game plan which concentrates more specifically on that long hard steady effort.

My race? Hey, I got a call-up!! Thanks Larry. However, I started in 2 big a gear, fumbled getting into my pedal, and found myself at the back of the pack before the second turn. Blah. Mud puddle #1 I pick the wrong line, get bogged down and take forever to get back up to speed. Go even farther back. Mud puddle #2 my bike starts skipping, I got something caught in my cassette. I didn't know that at the time so I rode another lap or 2 before I finally went into the pit and grabbed my other bike.

After I got a fresh bike I managed to move up a place or 5. Here's something I need to get used to in the A's. As I go through the start/finish I see 8 to go. God damn. If I was in the B's or 35+ I'd have like 2 to go. That extra 20 minutes are the longest 20 minutes you'll ever experience 😱

Somewhere around lap 7 I think, I get lapped by the 3 leaders. I just moved out of the way to let them pass. These guys are actually racing, I don't want to hold them up. A little while longer Freddy and some guy come by me. After that I pretty much just sat up and rode around until the timer was up. What's the point of racing for 3rd to last? Blah.

The positives.

A) This is exactly the motivator I need. I react very well to getting my ass handed to me.

B) My bike is super awesome, so I got that going for me 😀

It's maiden voyage went well...

That is all...

Why the Dumonde vs. say rock n roll stringy grease, phil's bearing grease or tenacious oil?

I have drank their cool-aid. I have been using their full line of lubes including the moto lube on my KTM.

Dumonde is the only lube that kills the vibration of s dry drivetrain. All of their products seem to have the same properties. They simply quiet and smooth out bike parts.

On the down side, it isn't the cleanest running and it smells like a meth lab.

Because of the liquid plastic coating Dumonde Tech creates. It fills in the gaps between the individual bearings and the race which prevents dirt from getting in. The others are standard oils and will get displaced by pretty much anything.

So I should wear nitrile gloves, no problem.

No, it smells weird, but it's not dangerous. Completely Eco friendly. Like J says, it is a bit dirty. For my road bike I mix the Lite 1/2 and 1/2 with T-9. I call it Tec-9. It still retains the quiet and smoothness of Dumonde while making it so your drivetrain doesn't turn black.

On the cross and MTB bikes I use straight yellow. I go light because I lube my chain all the time so it doesn't matter much...

I'm obsess on keeping the my dt on the road bike as clean as I can... After every ride I run the chain thru a shop towel for at east five minutes and proceed to take the wheel off to clean the cassette... I apply dumonde on each rivet... Before I ride it the next day I wipe it down again to get the excess oil off... Despite my efforts it is still a bit stained... So thanks for this tip I will be picking up some T-9 asap

Is it worse than Goof Off? Stripping tubulars in the garage was odorific.

Ah ha! I have been meaning to ask this question for say a month now. I have some glue on an aluminum tubular that needs to be removed. I just have not had the time and do it. I thought Goof off would work. Now I have confirmation!

Care to elaborate on the process?

I just applied the lite dumonde tech to the chains on my cross bikes. They will hang for two weeks before they are used. Whats the over under my drive train looks like it was run through my septic tank after granogue?

Note to self....Need more T9.
