Going Long and Hard.

Ever chop it up with Jay about his NJ days? Isn’t he from Middlesex or somewhere around there?

He is prolly like, “ if i ever move back shoot me in the head cause I’ve gone crazy.”

Finally under freezing, yay!! 21 degrees during tonight's ride.

So this ride was somewhat of a bust. The goal was to test my new sleeping set up but it was between 40-50 degrees all day and into the night. Meh. Ended up just riding straight through for the miles at least.

One thing I did realize though, I need to swap the fuel and anything cage. When lying the bike down on the non drive side the fork bag isn't accessible.

Also, my roll is smaller with the higher end poop in it so I don't need to compress it as much.

So, it is 1 month until the 2018 Fat Pursuit!
The 200K and 200 mile race scheduled for Jan 5-7 in Island Park, Idaho (near Yellowstone).

Last year, an extreme cold spell humbled many, including some veteran ITI racers.
In the 200 mile, only 1 finisher out of 30 entries.
In the 200K, which had the benefit of full daytime highs, there were 4 finishers out of 14 racers.

Jim, you had a harrowing night last year. Almost a year later, what is hindsight now?

What kind of gear changes have you made..if any?

You only got off the bike once in 12 hours?!?

Yes and no. I get off the bike here and there to switch clothing, water, food, etc...I stopped once to get water. Moving time was just over 11 hours for 12 elapsed. Last week's ride was almost 2 hours off the bike out of 16 elapsed. Not that I like to think about it but, that's just the effort to get to CP1.

See above a few posts. Bought a thermal bag liner to get my bag down to -45 degrees. Bought a new sleeping pad with a 5.9R Value, my previous was basically a zero. All new bag arrangement to put stove, fuel, tools, etc outside the bags to have more room for layers. Also just bought the new Revelate Hydration pack. I'm all in.
