Diary of a Macman

Always good to ride with you Jim. I think your GPS is far more accurate than my old Garmin 12Map.

I think ElZoller may have been in the woods too, based on his post of frozen areas. Too bad we missed him.
i think there was 20% differnce in our gps units in elevation gain, it dooesn't seem too far off, max speed was 100% difference. this morning i used my delorne which seems fairly accurfate.

took road bike to river road and recorded ride w/ my droid. the max speed faggoadaaaboutit. sometimes it reads 220 mph. i was cold and did not enjoy it as much as this mornings ride, but i am happy enought to get a ride in on canon ball and river rd in the same day:popcorn:

getting rid of my super sized fork as i didn't like the way it handled on the ridge. gonna try my luck with the scraped up 100 rlc or maybe a mazoorochi

all along the watch tower

got in about 18 miles today on the mtb

at the end of the day i played musical tires w/ my two wheelsets. the 2nd wheel set now has 1.85" mich front & back

the good wheel set still has 2.4 conti front and 2" mich rear.

the conti go to go as i got like 4 flats in 2 weeks any thorn goes threw the tyre. i saw some 10 dolla 2.3 online. thinking i may keep the 140mm travel fork, but i'd like to take it up to hi mtn and canon ball a few more times:popcorn:

Cool route at Split Rock. Can't wait to explore the trails this summer. The look out where your camera died used to be a hawk watch and features a great view of Jersey to the South including Route 80. Some vandals destroyed the wooden platform a few years back.

Here's some shots from the lookout circa 1997. Hello 90s digital photography. Did you see this old car along the way?

i rode wild cat ridge a couple of days ago. i didn't see that car (a rambler?)

imho split rock no good for mtb from what i hear it is patroled:cry:

Split Rock patrolled? Uh? Riding is totally legal. We used to call the whole area Split Rock, so I was referring to Wildcat Ridge and the trails south of the dam. Split Rock Reservoir is open to the public for boating and fishing, but heading north of the dam you need a permit from the Newark Watershed Commission. It was possible in the 90s to ride the reservoir and link up to Charlottesburg by Route 23 for a true epic, but things have change since 9/11 and there's a general fear of terrorists bikers🙂

i read some where you can get permits to go places in jersey but I believe that is for hiking. if you look at the trail directory on this site split rock is omitted if you check other sites you'll see people recomend not riding there.

after having a flu bug for a couple of days i took xc skiis outside today but snow was too deep. later in the day i put bike on trainor for 1 hr 4 min. 134 ave hr 165 max hr

1 more mtb ride for 2010

got over to saddle river park today and mtbed the whole park, when i got to glen rock pond a few roadies headed out i was tempted to join them. i felt my 1.85" tires could hold up but i had no mirror on my glasses and i am so used to having it, i don't like to ride in streets w/o it

i park next to the mill often at lunch and run up to glen rock pond, today was nice w/snow and mtb, next week i get back my 100mm rlc fork sans lock out:popcorn:

1-1-11

took the mtb to river road today
http://connect.garmin.com/activity/61436593

coulda taken road bike as the lentgh and breadth of river road was cleared with exception of the end of bike path at the south entrance to river road, the curb cut was snowy:popcorn:

considering i added the ross dock climb to my weedkay ride if river rd. the 1:45 time not too bad, was doing it w/o ross dock in 1:10 n the summer mornings. in wintery dark mornings did the ride in 1:20

took the skinnier wheel set of 1.85" and could be looking for a skinnier wheel set. something better then the wtb all terrainaus i had before😀

Wanted to ride hi mtn today but I was pressed for time. Took my epic and rebuilt rlc 100mm to the county park for a test spin. Bike felt better balanced with 100mm. Fork. Had I known I was going srcp today I would brought front wheel with 1.85" tire

Imho the bike now needs more blue. I have blue road tires but for mtb I thing a blue tool pack would be a good start:popcorn:
