Computer mount?

Should I mount the computer on the bars or top tube of the frame? My OCD it's telling me to go with the asymmetrical look of the top tube frame mount and keep the bars looking clean... opinions? Any reason it HAS to be mounted traditionaly on the bars and shouldn't be mounted on the frame?

the safety factor of the top tube seems to have some appeal.

on the other hand, if you hit something with your head looking there, expect a superman ??

I like the top tube placement it lends a bit of safety to it plus the bars are now right..

I thought about on the stem so it's centered and my OCD doesn't go into overdrive but I think it will be a bit more protected on the top tube. I'll see how it is on the top tube. If I find myself looking down too much I might try it on the stem. Looks good on the top tube though.

Will your bars hit/crush it if you crash and they spin?
No, the new Treks have a knock block system built into the headset/stem which prevents the fork from spinning due to the new straight down tube design. Plus I have all three spacers under the stem so there would be plenty of clearance should I crash hard enough for the knock block to fail.

I stuck with the top tube mount since the computer would be smashed into the ground when I flip my bike over to take my front wheel off if I have it mounted to the bars or stem.

Why do you flip your bike over? Looked like you had the equipment from previous threads, no? Can't hook seat on a branch to hang if needed while on trail? Serious question...

Flip my bike to take the front wheel off to mount to my roof rack. I have the Thule thru ride that clamps on the axle.

I also use the 20mm axle adapter so the forks are better supported and it doesn't clamp directly on my axle.

I hope mounting computer on the top tube works for you. Personally, I think it will be a lot harder to look down to view it than if it were mounted on the handlebars or the stem (if your stem was longer).

Your need to flip the bike (re: transportation prep) would seem to make mounting computer on the top tube the better placement. Also, it will hopefully be more protected on the top tube, so that would be a plus.

Good luck!

Looking at it really shouldn't be an issue. I really only have it to keep track of my miles since I'm always forgetting to start recording on Strava lol I may glance down now and again just out of curiosity to check my speed or the time. It should definitely have a higher survival rate on the top tube in the event I bite it

I flip bike to pull wheel as well for storage inside vehicle. I have stem mount holder for my I-phone. I just put my foot under the grip closest to me during the flip. Keeps the thing-a-ma-jig from getting f'd up. Just a simple solution if you choose to move to stem.
