Birthday Trip

He beat me to it. Winter is a great time for the Florida Keys and the Everglades. You could do a good combo trip. Try an overnight Kayak trip, a night or two in Key West and please do me the favor of having at least one good Cuban meal in Miami.

When you decide that I'm right, I'll give you some more details.

Normally I'd say ski or bike but since those 2 are crossed off, I would go exactly what J-7 said. My inlaws have a place at the top of Key Largo and we usually go down in the winter a coupe times and the weather is usually amazing.

That overnight Kayak trip sounds rad. I will add getting a good guide and going flats fishing. Even if you don't catch anything you'll see some great stuff. And depending on if they are running, Tarpon @ night is great.

Scuba/snorkling spots are down there along with shops that will bring you out.

Key West is worth a visit if you've never been. Maybe even look into charting a sailboat and spend the 4 days on that. Prices right now might be pretty cheap.

FFT probably has more info on the scuba/fishing route.

i love to ski, but i'll tell you, if you are going on a vacation for a short trip, go with a warm area. i think the keys are a great idea. to be in shorts in mid-january rules.

well, we are dialing it in a bit. looks like i am flying into bong leach, and we are going to throw a compass on the map and pick something w/in 4 hour drive. me may just b-line it to the hot springs in saline valley and camp out for a few nights...
