Bash guard

I have the oval bastard. Holds up fine to my fat ass with zero finesse at log-overs. I have been thinking of going to a 34T as well (2x9). When I burn up the 32T ring I will surely switch.

Good stuff, thanks. I dropped bbg a line with a couple questions see what they say.

Just an update on this idea..wonder turtles' bash question brought it up.

I went with a bbg 34t (shipped fast, looks and works great, cheap) and a blackspire super pro 34t middle ring. As I mentioned, it's one of the best changes I've made on the bike. Simply dont have to worry about catching the big ring on a rock or log anymore. I love it. I never ride road so don't miss the big ring but ymmv.

I like the 34 but if/when I lose my current cycling conditioning it's gonna hurt. 😛 But thats why I left the granny! Side benefit is I found I can get the front deraileur lined up much smoother if it doesn't have to service three rings. Don't ask about the struggle I had getting the granny mounting holes fixed. Haste made waste there...🙁

Thanks for all the ideas here even though it wasn't my thread.

Yes, BBG's are sweet and they're like $12 with warranty on cracking. 😉

the aluminum they use isn't your typical 6061 aluminum.... it's a different aluminum alloy (maybe 5000 series) that bends more than cracks on high load impacts....

I have a good bend on the thinned section for the crank arm clearance for install.....probably hit a rock pretty good

I just got a salsa triple tooth fairy to install outside a triple chavinring... Anyone have any exp. with these?

Same deal with the same guard a couple months back. I had issue with the front deraileur making contact and occasionally catching when i first installed it. Tried slightly raising and adjusting the fd, but in the long run had to take it into the shop to get things sorted. Still have some glitchy shifting, mostly dropping into the granny and then back. Middle to big and back works fine. Kind of a PIA, but it allowed me to keep the big ring intact for some road use. Don't ride road too often though, so i may eventually drop down to 2x if any drivetrain changes end up needing to be done.

Does look pretty bad ass😀

I would mention a particular bashguard but i need to get it first 🙂 Its pretty bad@ss and dont know anyone with one yet haha.

Thanks.. After trying to install for 30 minutes, I realized I need long bolts, heading back to the shop tomorrow . Won't drop down to a double, I live off the d and r canal so I like the 44t, but need a teeny granny gear as I've gotten fat and lazy!

Yes sir, have been riding the tooth fair trip ring for the last 4 years. I had them initially on my FSRxc and now its new home is my Enduro. Recommended by Gary from Bike N Gear. Solid one, but if you want to run all three crank gears, you need longer bolts and additional washers. I had Efingers help me with the additional washers and longer studs for no charge.

Do note that it took a while to adjust the Front derailleur on my FSRxc for some reason, but on the Enduro running the stock M770 front Derailleur, it was easy.
