Allaire is still closed

This is what I thought I posted a few days ago before I lost internet...but the basics still apply:

Hi all,
I just got off the phone with one of the crew leaders for Allaire who was conversing with an Allaire employee, and we were asked to pass on this message. The NJ State Parks Dept. has closed all NJ state parks until next week due to the hurricane. They ask that folk please refrain from entering the parks until they reopen, this includes any work on downed trees! Please don't do ANY work in the park until it has officially reopened. This is a request from Allaire s Superintendent, so please heed this request. Once things calm down we will form crews to clean up the park. This is a very similar situation as to what had occurred at Estelle Manor earlier this year. We will keep you updated as we get the information. Thank you in advance for your cooperation in this matter.

Took the cross bike out around on the roads here yesterday. Passed by the park and it is officially closed. Parking lot is taped off. Took a quick peek at the side trail along Hospital Road and unless you enjoy getting off your bike every 5 feet and hiking it is pretty much futile to even try. Give it time to reopen. And yes, it's still too sandy. 😀

Thank you

Thanks for the offers of assistance. With Mike still without power, I am trying to help him out a bit here. That said, I spoke with the Park Rep yesterday and he's still trying to convince the maint. super. to let us in and work. Officially they are supposed to go in and assess the damage themselves as to not put volunteers at risk of injury. We would really like to organize a work day this Sunday, but still have to await permission. To those who have resisted the urge to go in and work, we thank you for your patience. To those who are going in anyway, we ask that you not do anymore rogue work....it only casts a negative light on our user group. Thanks for your understanding.

All,
As I now have power back on 🙂 Thanks Frank for reaching out....

I heard back today from the park they are aware of a lot of the downed trees and for safety reasons are going to clear the access roads first. Once this is done we will be able to go in and start a cleanup effort of our own so lets be a bit more patient. From what I was told they would have had this done by Thursday but with the coming storm that is going to put them back a bit. When we get the OK to go into the park I will post it up here and on as well as the ATUG and JORBA facebook page. Thank you for your understanding on this issue.

Judging by the tree damage within a mile of Allaire, I fear that the snow storm may have created even more work. 🙁

trails

Frank,

I agree Im in Jackson and still dont have power from the Snow Storm, and was out clearing trees in front of my house all day yesterday

thanks for the offer the park is still closed so we are not allowed to start our clean up yet.
once they have given us the all clear I will post up here for a tree crewing party. I am going to check with them today for a date and would say next Sunday will be our start date.

I think it's safe to assume that the parks will focus their resources on areas that generate revenue first.....Hospital Rd. trails are last on their list. Also worth noting is that the order to remain closed is from high up, so we can't even use our "get out of jail free card" here. We just have to remain patient for now, but be assured we will rally and reclaim our little slice of heaven.

While I understand and will remain patient, I dont undersand why they wont let a crew of volunteers in now to do the clean up work. They have a small army of people equipped with the tools and the know-how to do the job, why not take advantage of it?

Is the paved trail near Allaire closed too? I know sections of the Henry Hudson are closed.

Jill,
I think you mean this path...

I have not checked but I would think there are some trees down on this as well...
As for Allaire they need to clear the acces roads first this way they can get EMS people in if someone gets hurt, From what I understand there are some pretty bad widow makers inside the park and they want to be sure we are all safe.

Just heard back the fire roads are still not cleared they were busy with the stuff in the other parks. They are on the schedule for this week so we might be out next weekend to start our cleanup. We will post up here for the start time...stay tuneed.

Allaire

Drove by the park on Sunday for a closed park a lot of cars in parking lot; heard trail work has already started!

The last I heard is it was still closed that came from my park rep. they have today off so I will call him Tuesday morning.
us going in and working when the park is declared closed from a state level only makes us look selfish instead of trying to lend a hand to help out. I can fully understand how the frustration level is going up and can only hope we try do to the right thing.

im buyng a new chainsaw tomorrow! let me know if the park is open next weekend to go help!

While I appreciate the thought only park personal are allowed to use power tools in state parks due to insurance reasons.
now and then this can get stretched a bit but we can't have people running around with chain saws. When we go in for the clean up (hopefully this weekend) we will have bow saws, folding saws and different lopers. we have in the past had park personal with us and were able to use the chainsaws then it all boils down to a liability issue.

Oh Wow. I stated on another thread that Allaire was open yesterday. Headed to the park thinking it would be closed, no closed signs, no caution tape, cars in the lot, people riding. Went in for a good ride.

Dumb Ass, w/all the post clean-up I selfishly didn't realize it was Vet/day. Excuse me for the report.
