My good friend Tommy Bahama hasn't been out on a spin in I can't remember how long. The last time we were hanging out with our mutual Irish friend, I was needling him a little to try to get him back out there, and he started going on about how his frame's too small/back hurts/tire knobs too noisy/fork too plush, wubby sore/etc. I know, mee too, get over it.

So, one by one, I removed his excuses from the equation with logic, and actually convinced him to get the setback seatpost so his "frame would grow," relatively cheaply. Buy the best and buy it once/30.9 fits a lot of frames/don't need a new bike to get out on a ride. This was around the holidays, and so he got it, and installed it, and I finally dragged him out last night for his first ride in awhile; a shred of HHT gnar up to Keyport. Stopped for a beer, then headed back; it was colder than I had figured, but not too bad. Nice to hang with The Tombinator again.

Come to think of it, I haven't been able to get out too much lately either. Lots of stuff going on. Maybe tomorrow....

We are not early adopters:
Combined bike ages: 36
amount of fun per $$$; 36,000,000,000

Today’s ride was at Cascade Lake Park in Warwick, NY. I’m still not too familiar with this place so each time I make some new discoveries. Exploring the unknown trail is one of my favorite things about MTB’ing.

That's great! I love to explore too, BUT, you need either a great sense of direction or the power to find your way out when lost.
Unfortunitly, I'm lacking both. 😛

@Kaleidopete I thought you might be interested in this since you were the one who turned me on to Cascade Park. The 2nd pic above is an unnamed lake I found following a trail off one of the corners of the pink trail that showed as "dead end" on the map. The quads had evidently continued the trail so it is unmarked. At one point I almost turned back as there was a tricky stream crossing, but I found a reasonable crossing and kept going in hopes to reach the ridge overlooking Greenwood Lake. Well, it did dead end, at this pretty lake that is on the NYNJTC map, but not labeled. The other corner of the pink trail was another marked dead-end on the map, but was very passable and lead out to Cherry Tree Hill Rd, which was a double track trail at that point, but ultimately became a dirt road leading to Cascade Rd. Then California Rd (dirt road) leads back into the park.

Thanks! I'll have to grab that Strava link and download.

Since I have the “exploring bug” lately, I decided to go check out a lesser traveled area of Wawayanda State Park, by Wawayanda Mountain. It’s kind of a bitchy climb to get up to the ridge, but it’s pretty nice riding up top and it turns out there is a great view to the West

Friday afternoon ride at Wilcat Ridge. Unfortunately, I had 2 flats. The first tubeless tire puncture seemed a lot like one I experienced in Deer Park from triple park ride a few weeks ago, so it may have actually been a repuncture. Stan's Sealant has been eating thru rear Maxxis Ignitor tire.

The second flat was a pinch flat to tube that I had to put in after first flat. I guess I should have been riding the rocky ridges more conservatively when I had a tube in the rear tire. Glad to have brought a second tube with me. I assumed I only had one tube in my bag.
