Trail names

Has anyone thought of changing the trail name of the trails in NJ to actual "names" instead of red trail, blue trail, green trail...etc., like the do at ski areas.

Thoughts.

the locals name them, trails at chimney rock: BONESHAKER (yes in all caps), granola ridge, imba,

they may not be the actual names, but they become named.

I know about Jungle and Wayway.

6 Mile run would be a good place to change the names from the colors to actual names, as well as LewMo.

Well the colors are used in conjuction to the markers. Places like jungle where most of the trails have been made relitively recently are not too hard to navigate...until you get to the pavement areas where there are routes going everywhere and it can get confusing. Places like allamuchy north/stephens, there are so many old trails mixed in/intersecting with new ones, its really hard to navigate without the markers sometimes. Mahlon has both...color trail markers and local names. But agree about the trail names, every good trail needs a name.

Every trail in Allamuchy North has a name. I've been riding there for 20+ years and it confuses the shit out of me when people refer to the trails by color but then again at my age everything confuses the shit out of me.

The land managers determine whether trails get proper names or not. Some years ago I asked Allaire's Super if we could use names and he was totally against it. Now many of the trails have multiple names and it's even more confusing...good job Nick 🙄

down south if you build them, you name them. Ceres has trails like the rollercoaster, breakneck, and the witch doctor. CCC has ones like Endor, Creekside, Vine St. and Twisty.....one good thing about Strava is lopps our trail names get better known, signs help too

CR used to be my home park and I still have no idea what the trail names are there.

Regardless of names or colors, why don't more parks have better markings/signage? Are there restrictions against this? That would be helpful when exploring new parks. At least some directions at key intersections.

I think every trail in every park should be named Willie and have a picture of ALF at the trailhead.

We tried that at Lew Mo but park commission wanted colors so that they would correlate to the trail map, which is color-coded.

Doesn't mean we can't name them want we want 😉 I still find it funny that one of the trails at the south end is called "Marty's" by some locals because it opened just before a race Marty's Reliable held in 2002. The truth is I built most all of that trail (and still have it as my Adopt-a-Trail, with a plaque to that effect). 😀

I think the best trail name at the moment is "White" at Ringwood...it's both the color of the blazes, and the name of the tireless volunteer leaders whose vision and long-standing commitment has made that park so awesome.

^^^^^THIS^^^^^^

Much respect for the Whites.

How can we put up trails names a LewMo? Keep the colors, but also use names.

Interesting, Norm suggests riding "WIllie" (WTF) and Sounds suggests riding "Your Mom". I like where this is going (along with the "riding" theme)

My suggestion (s) - Cheerleader, Stripper, Stay at home Mom, Cougar, Frat Girl, Drunk Girl, Hot Chick, Fat Chick, Skinny Chick, Desperate Chick...

Whoa... I need to slow down for a sec... I said enough, but you get the point..
