Trail names

Understandable.... Maybe something more appropriate and politically correctfor the girlies... I did catch myself before I got way out of control... Bestiality and S&M stuff started to come to mind...

I remember a thread where Norm was offering to pay to have his picture put up as trail makers at Allamuchy. I don't think that went very well.
 
try to keep it to topical song references for stb, although
bouncing souls may be just a bit too light on the pedal.

Would certainly be nice, but to be honest, there are bigger priorities at Lew Mo. We have been trying to get the MCPC to address the damage from the past 3 years worth of Warrior Dashes, to no avail as of yet (we are still working through some channels). I somehow think adding names to trails will be even lower on their priority list 😉

How about if i just make up some signs and put them up on the trails?
 
I appreciate what you're trying to achieve, but that would be deathly for our efforts at MCPC. It's their land, their trails, they have ultimate say. Doing that would be akin to building rogue trails. PM me if you want to discuss further.

i would suggest a discussion with the park people to canvass the public for their opinion on trail names which might honor a local hero, or be whimsical to overlay the color blazes. to "gauge interest" -

take "harm's way" for example. both whimsical and honorary...
something like this for a long time park ranger, local volunteer, john muir type, or beer slugging wookie.😉

take a look at google maps of SMP - the trail names are there. lewis morris has the color names - simple argument that people would see the names being honored.

anyway, as mentioned there are 100s of other things on the list, but they probably have people that do public outreach and might hook into this.

and for $100k, there might be walmart way....

just blue skying - might be a head injury along with the neck ???
 
All great ideas, but speaking from 15 years working in the trail maintenance/park relations business, trust me (more than I can go into on a public forum) that at this point in time, the appetite is not there and likelihood of consideration is low to nil. I can't even get responses to the more pressing issues.

That said, no harm in public citizens writing independently to suggest them and seeing if it sticks.

I'm with you. I personally prefer trail names. There's something about good ones that convey volumes about the experience on the trail. And the ones you don't understand, makes the trails that much more interesting because you keep wondering how the names came to be, which makes you want to ride them more.

For now, i think ginger's idea is perfectly workable. Riders can call them whatever they want (just don't post up any signs to this effect).

In fact, I've been riding Allamuchy for 15+ years and only learned a year or so that the trail we've been calling "The New Fun Trail" for about 10 years is called "Freakin Middle." We still call it the New Fun Trail.😛
