When this thing first came out all the reviews from people who owned it was to wait for them to work out the bugs. I was in the store yesterday and was told that many of the issues have been worked out. I dont know if thats BS or not.

I have never owned a blackberry. It sounds like a cool thing. And its only 99 bucks which makes things a bit more tempting. I thought about making the switch to AT&T for the iphone, but Im not sure if I am ready to do that just yet.

Blackberry owners, specifically Storm owners opinions please.😀
 
just remember it is an extra $30 per month for the blackberry service (for verizon anyways). That shouldn't be a problem for a baller like yourself, just wanted to give you a heads up
 
Put the Storm down and back slowly away.

Seriously, this will go down in history as one of the worst Blackberry's ever. It was rushed to market because BB needed a touchscreen phone to compete with the Iphone. A few people at work had one but the IT dept eventually banned them because of all the complaints. It will be replaced very shortly with the Storm 2 which is reported to be a much better product. That's why they are blowing them out at $99, because the Storm 2 is due in September and will include Wi-Fi.

There is one guy here on site that has one and hates it. I can't count the number of times I've heard him cuss it and BB for brining it out. I know he's taken it into Verizon to be fixed multiple times.
 
Sweet. Thanks for the advice. Mr. JShort Pm'd me with similar info. Ill have to do some reading on the new storm. For now Ill see if I can get verizon to warranty the battery on my DARE.:hmmm:
 
I have the storm as well and it is by far the worst phone I have ever had. I have had 4 storms since february and I hope this one fails as well so they will allow me to get the blackberry Tour (the better operating, no touch screen, equivalent to the bb Bold that AT&T has). Bottom line...the storm is great on paper but it is a first generation model that still needs to work through some kinks and it will eventually become better in time, unfortunately not soon enough.

If Verizon doesn't get you a battery, you can pick one up on FleaBay for about $12. Much cheaper then the rip-off price that VZ will charge you. That should cover you for a few months til the new phones are out in the fall.
 
My company uses BB's alot. They are not bad phones in general, but I will say that the company is looking to switch everyone over to Iphone's soon from what I've been told.
 
yes...it sucks ass...
slow as hell, cant type, etc, etc..I hate it.
My wife has the iphone and it is a lot better.
However if this is for business, which I think is not your case, I wouldnt recommend either, I would go for a regular BB

I have an extended warranty and insurance. So i just have to get the tech to say the battery STB i think.

Just like the Iphone on AT&T, you have to get a data plan with any VZ smartphone or PDA. The cheapest plan is $30/month in addition to your normal plan with 700 minutes or whatever. Yeah, these things ain't cheap.

Oh ok, my plan includes unlimited web,text, blah blah. That should cover it right?

Nope.

You can probably drop your unlimited web blah blah for the Dare (I'm guessing you're paying $15/month for that) when you add the $30/month Blackberry plan, so net-net you will spend an extra $15/month more then your paying now.

Haven't heard much about it lately but I know BB is coming out with the Storm 2. It's supposed to have wi-fi capability and fix the issues they say are fixed already. My brother-in-law has the storm and said the one corner of his screen won't depress anymore so he can't "push" buttons over there anymore. If you wait a while I'm sure they will announce something about the second gen storm. My other friends have the Pearl and the Curve and they love them.

I just can't imagine anything coming close to the iPhone just yet. I know you're not using it for business. Work issues your business gadgets 😉

Having said that you have 2 things to keep in mind:

1. Like Jeff said, it's not cheap. If you go iPhone you ened the phone plan, the data plan, and the text plan. Yes, they're all separate. And yes, you need a text plan.

2. If you don't get AT&T reception at home it wouldn't make sense.
 
Hmm...I dont know what AT&T is like in Rocky Hill. I left them a while ago for America's Most Reliable Network. They were terrible in the South Brunswick area a while ago. That was then Linda's mom seems to be happy with it now though. In a perfect world Apple and Verizon would make a deal so I could be happy.

Its a copy cat industry....

devices are coming.... ones that have more powerful chipsets than the 3GS.
That should in theory eliminate the sluggishness some smart phones experience.

Also... Sprints exclusiveness on the Palm Pre runs out in 2010.... (only months away)
And that phone is HOT HOT HOT....

While I cant confirm any of this... it may come to VZW soon..
