trail conditions dashboard

Norm.....here's an avatar for you (per your request), hope you like it 😉 Feel free to throw me in if you want some help with Allamuchy North trail info.
Come on man, I was really hoping for a Fat Rainbow or Brooky honestly. Unless your refering to trouser trouts then carry on...

I think I could be more useful contributor when/if this goes live. I am not "near", nor do I regularly "pass by" a trailhead to peak in and check it out. But, I'd be glad to provide a status every time I can, based on the various places I ride, hike, etc.

Fellow fisherman ... anyone ever take their rod with them while biking and pedal to offshoot lakes/streams to fish? I've been contemplating this idea for a while. Wondering if stashing a 6' split rod in my camelback will work?

Ok, there's a list of 13 people. That should be good for now to get some data in the system. I'll sent you all a conversation and we can discuss what you guys want to see added first. More details to come and if anyone wants to jump in, feel free to chime in here or message me.

Not to hijack the thread but how long has that boat been 1/2 buried in the sand up at the tip of the hook? Since Sandy? I'm guessing you've seen that given where you live. I rode the beach this past weekend and was suprised to see that up there.
I asked the local shop, he confirmed.... since Sandy... and since there is no electronics, or motor/drive they have decided to leave it.

Does this replace the park forums?

I don't see the good details in the park specific forums going away. Thinking that's where pics should be posted and specifically which trails weren't rideable if the dashboard cites a locale as yellow.

Wrong thread, maybe? It will, but it's as sketchy as pretty much every other way of getting a rod on a bike, just in different ways. If you use a rack, Cogburn makes an attachment that's quite secure, but I know of at least a few other people that use a modified surf rod holder strapped to the bike. I figure if I'm going fishing, I'm not doing anything stupid/questionable, so I have no problem with strapping the rod onto the bike instead of me. Also check out bike fisherman if you don't want to make something yourself.

Could see it posting into there at some point ?????
perhaps a check-box to post (which can't be done anonymously)

Park forums will not go away. If anything it would be great to feed the average park rating into that first post...but then who would actually see it?

More integration between this, park forums, and the wiki would be great. I am in my programming mode so it may be viable to do something now. Let me finish this up and see how we can use it most effectively and go from there.

Every time dashboard updates for a park, can it auto-post as the newest message in that park's conditions thread?

This is interesting, really interesting. Right now it is not setup to handle that but it sure would be an interesting & useful addition. I would need to create a new table, 1 for each park (shut up @soundz) which would hold park info, including a rating for conditions. I think it would make some sense for the update to only happen when we changed state (red/yellow/green). I'm sure that's what you're talking about.

Another option, or even an add-on, would be a single thread with conditions. The first post has the overall dashboard and every time a state changes it tacks on a post. So the first post updates all the time but new posts are added when a state changes.

Some work, not too much though. Interesting. Interesting. I like this. I'll need to see how easy it is to slap posts on threads though.
