Tire Selection

Hey gang,

I could really use some recommendations for 26er tires. I ride mostly Central NJ but like to travel when the opportunity arises. I ride a FS K2 Attack. Right now I'm riding with Specialized Crossroads tires and they just don't have that much bite. I'm not a racer but like to corner at fast speeds and prefer to not slide out all the time. 😉
Last week I rode at Jungle Habitat and these tires TOTALLY sucked on the rocky terrain....not so good in rooty sections either. (especially when wet:scared🙂 lol
Does anyone have any personal favs for all around trail biking?
I am most certainly NOT a weight weenie! I don't care how heavy the tires are, I'd actually prefer them to be durable/reliable over super light.
I will be using split tube ghetto tubless.....cause that's how I roll 😉

Alrighty, Let me have it!
hahaha! 😀

Thanks,

-Mike

I Like my crossmarks and ignitors for Jungle, recently ive been testing out some hutch pythons and i like them a lot. For racing i have my conti race kings or cross/ ignitor set up that is yet to fail me.

Love my Panaracer Fire Pro XC, pretty decent rolling tire much better than my old trusty Velociraptors but just as much bite when climbing or cornering as the WTBs. Even better now that I went tubeless. I'd give these a try.

WTB Weirwolves! I liked them when they needed tubes, and I love them tubeless !!! Best all around tire I have ever used.

ditto on the panaracer. i have the tube version on my hard tail and the ust version on my full suspension. very grippy! when they wear out i'm buying the same tires. i don't even feel the need to experiment.

I love these tires. I have a set of Panaracer 2.1 on my Blur 1.0 and a pair of Panaracer Fire FR 2.4 on my Butcher. They are the best tires with awesome traction and stability. They are directional and the rear tires is installed backwards for maximum traction.

I am running the weirwolfs on 2 of my bikes, ( running the rear reversed), and they have been great in all the parks I have hit since mounting them up. That being said, I would take the opinion of someone who rides the rocks all the time over mine. What the hell do I really know anyway? 😀

hmm. I was hoping everyone out there was using the same tires. 😀

but, in all seriousness.......with all the different tires out there it looks like I'm down to just 2 to decide between so far.
thanks you gentlemen 😉

sounds like the next logical move is to buy another bike so you can try the two tires to narrow it down to which you like better 😀

ignitors are good all around tires, as are the weirwolfs. Weirwolfs hook up super good in a variety of conditions and there are killers in the corners.

Makes perfect sense to me man! 😀

There's money in it for you if you can convince my wife the value of this logical solution :hmmm:

😀

Ignitors are sweet although find they wear quickly...then again maybe I'm just fat.

Other options are tried and true velociraptors.

Conti mountain Kings 2.2! I loved this tire in a 26inch. the 2.4 up front if it gets muddy but the 2.2's will do a great job 99% of the time. I believe this is perhaps the finest 26 tire I've ridden.
Unfortunately, it borders on terrible for a 29er.

Another great all around tire is the Specialized Captain. (26 and 29).
