Superb Owl Sunday SS ride

On Sunday I woke up with the intention to do Johnny's 100k bonus but after 10 miles in to the ride my legs were not responding to anything I threw at it so I pulled the ripcord and bailed on the 100k at a good point in the route and settled for a familiar 20ish mile loop with terrain and roads I know very well and called it a day. I gradually felt better after a couple of the larger hills but didn't want to commit to a longer ride and limp home. Plus I wanted to get over to Jalapeno for their 2 year anniversary/cross worlds viewing party and did not want to feel like trash all day there.

I borrowed and installed for (S&Gs) a crank based power meter from a teammate on the SS and saw some neat data out of it. Wattage was what I would consider "great" for me even though I felt like junk. Had I run my geared roadie I know I would've spun out in the granny gears but having 1 gear I left myself no option. It's cool to see data after the ride but during the ride wattage meant nothing except looking at a high number on climbs and wondering if I'll have enough gas to clear it or low wattage when I'm spun out at 120rpm on a flat section at 18mph. Not sure I'll keep it around as I normally only train with power on the indoor Kickrs at the shop but considering I've been a BIYFer this year I haven't really gotten in any formal indoor training sessions and no real power data. Can't pace yourself much on a SS based on ftp so you either clear the hill or you don't (which I think I like better).

Strava new roads explore with Steve

This morning I got up at the God-awfully early hour of 6:30 am to look for Saturn, Venus and Jupiter in the SE sky. Of course totally foggy out so saw nothing. Rather than go back to bed, stayed up and got an earlier start on a ride. Original plan was the usual northport loop with a few extra miles added to get to around 42, but about 10 miles in I pass a guy who yells out my name. Turns out to be Steve again who I've been following on strava for 1.5 years and met a few weeks ago. He offers to show me some new roads, as long as I rode at a pace he could keep up with (he averages 16 mph usually). Fine with me, learned some great alternative roads to my usual NP loop that are more scenic and much less traffic, plus adds extra miles - all bonuses. Ended up with my longest ride of the year at 51+ miles

2 Rides today. First was a lunch break and the second and early evening break. No secret up here for us folks in the Northeast, wow, Spring day. Is it possible the groundhog is correct, we shall see.. Gratuitous creepy photo for @rick81721, night dead of night, but creepy vegetation(not sure what the heck that is) for effect. This was one great day to get out!

Pics& stories:
Last week I got caught off guard,High fever and headache makes me bed risen for few days
Today’s i’m back to my old self again
Thus,I rode my neglected skinny wheels racing machine and give her some needed love

Today
Is also marking the first day of Chinese lunar new year it’s last for 15 days
This year also marking The year of the pig/boar
As myself are also a pig/boar zodiac
So,this year is my year
Lots of good thing will happened to me

Here’s a article for you if you’re interested to learn more about it:

Back to my rides story
As usual I always wakes up around 3am even when I’m not working it’s kinda my brain it set for that hours every day all my life
So,I get dressed
Just needs few layers I should be good for today’s temperature
Planning to rode up to Port Jervist where there’s a stretch of amazing twisty and curvy roads very we’ll know by motorists or bikers and cyclist alike
Hawks Nest only few miles away from Downtown Port Jervis,I have been here many times(5times to be exact) winter, falls and summer also spring that’s the season I visited this areas

I took my regular route..from Clifton I start the ride before 5am,when I get to Ringwood areas the Commuters are already in full force getting to work driving along this CR511 good thing is i’m Heading the other way
It was around 6:14am

When the sun finally set to it’s full course I was just arrived in west Milford
Stopped by At DD in that town
Order two old fashion and a small coffee
Finished.,,
Let’s hit the roads again..
Towards Warwick by riding on Warwick tpk
Lots of knucklehead driving too close to me
Must be in a hurry to get coffee and donuts wich probably only a short walk distance

Ignore those knucklehead is best remedy

Too bad I veered into wrong turn when coming down very fast on a two miles long steep descending took Brady roads where I supposed to took different roads, this way put me into longer detour but that’s ok more mile more better

So I took longer detour to get to Pine Island Village known as Black Dirt Regions in Orange County Upstate New York
This is also CR 1 long and rolling hills is typically in this region but nothing to steep though but enough to make me work harder
Finally reaching at the end of CR 1 or pine island Tom after hours of tackling those long rolling hills
Now I’m on NY state Route 6
I took 6west towards Port Jervis
Wich is only 6mile away from this T section
It’s a long downhill a worthy rewards after those previous long climbing

Reached the Downtown
Immediately looking for foods
Find a Chinese restaurant and order Singapore maifun cost 7bucks it was almost 11am
Half hours latter I was on my bikes again riding up towards Hawk nest
Probably around 4 to 5 miles
After pondering around and whatnot

The next is
Looking for a route to loop back to port jervis

All in all
The Fun and Adventures was had
And it was fantastic feeling and satisfied feeling that I felt throughout and after the rides
A nice way to celebrate the lunar new year 2019
The year of pig
And i’m Born as pig

恭喜发财!
