Switching to a presta valve

Just a simple question. As far as switching to a presta valve setup (i find that the tubes are cheaper)

Can i just get a presta tube and be good to go, or do they only work on certain rims.

there are adapters to fit a presta into a schrader rim... otherwise it'll wiggle around and might get torn up

thanks for the quick replies. I was just wondering if it would work. I prob wont make the switch because then I need to go get a new adaptor for my compressor.....forget that lol

You can get a simple schraeder to presta valve adapter at any bike store for probably $2. And most decent floor pumps ($40+) auto-adjust to both presta and schraeder valves.

i was advised that the adapter trick wouldn't work too well on my c-dale 29er so ymmv depending on your rim

Some presta tubes have a little lip on the threaded spacer to be used in a schrader rim.

Presta and Schrader valve tubes should be the same price. I've never heard of one being cheaper than the other.

from some online stores i have seen presta valves cheaper. Sometimes by a few dollars. Maybe its just a clearance sale or something. I think i will stick with the schrader
