SSaP...where P =

Yeah, but with the cross training you aren't doing enough cycling to see the biggest gains for racing. The guys riding more are gonna beat you out most of the time.

sure, maybe. if you're in the TDF. but those guys have real PEDs and are built like, well, cyclists. i'm just trying to keep up with matty riding 50% less.

lol, I still remember the first real crossfit workout I did. I...legit.. couldnt walk down stairs. Hooked ever since 🙂

I'm w/ Mandi..Enjoy it! Because it never gets easier :getsome:

i like the concept of crossfit a lot...but the competing thing...i dunno.

I'll give my .02 on this one b/c I think it depends on what level you're talking about. I relied solely on crossfit training last year and restricted my road rides to commuting (12mi each way to gym) recovery rides and charity events. My mountain rides were limited to races and occassional group rides.
I was happy with my results.
IMO, you can win cat3 and some cat2 races relying on cross training. As you progress to cat1 and pro, that balance needs to shift to more time in the saddle however, you can not eliminate cross training from your routine. A solid strength and conditioning program is necessary at any level of competition.

this.

I will re-iterate. Watch out with the Creatine. I was "trying" it a long way back post ride/pre ride can't remember?? But it really did a number on my stomache. For years I would have a horrible time getting my body to uptake anything nutritional during/after a race - whether fluid or solid. I remember doing my first KVSP race then drinking a bottle and being in so much pain it was unreal.

you are insane for doing that and i would NEVER recommend anyone taking that stuff as a pre/post recovery drink. that's bonkers. your cells CANNOT intake anymore meaningful fluid so rehydration would be a major issue.

by the way, passed you on old beach glenn on sunday. you need a freaking hair cut you hippy.

So how many hours have you ridden this month?

Rough estimate, how many beers have you consumed?

Don't you get it, hours in the saddle do not factor into preparing for a race. Beer count is nullified for the sake of this experiment.

.

ehh, the competitions are a totally voluntary aspect of it. Plenty of people sit them out. The only CF comp I do throughout the year is the Open. I don't compete in any local comps otherwise. And the only reason I do that is because, like any huge event, there is a really fun and inspirational vibe in the gym when everyone is pushing their limits and your fellow competitors are cheering you on. You should come check it out.

Results-wise, I would think there is more value to cross-training when it comes to off-road than road cycling. You need more core strength for off-road with its more varied terrain, and a lot of cross-training workouts put a premium on that. On the road, I would think the gains you might see from cross-training could be negated by the added weight if you aren't careful (someone who spends a lot of time on the road can tell me if I'm way off base.)

Either way, I think it's tough to beat time in the saddle for making you a better cyclist. The other stuff may bring you to a point where your body is able to withstand tougher efforts, but it won't replace those efforts for making you faster. Cross-fit workouts are great for all-purpose fitness, but the guy who wins the Cross-fit Games is still going to get his a$$ handed to him on a climb by Contador.

1speed makes a good point. There is a difference between cycling fitness and overall fitness. Jake seems to be training for overall fitness. At least Jake will be able to chop a cord of wood after matty hands his ass to him 😀

hey, welcome buddy! where ya been? 😀

so beers consumed is skewed by last friday and saturday night. prior to that i'd had approximately 20 beers for the month which is somewhere in the neighborhood of one/day. unfortunately my ice cream intake went though the roof. hours are similar to hours from last year which i'd have to look up. maybe six?

distrue. or uncorrect. beer count is a huge part of this. last year that wasn't monitored. this year it is. and don't be silly, you and i both know that at the end of the day, saddle hours should trump all. but will it is the question.

i didn't slow down my riding. i'm still riding about the same amount. next week volume will go up...i'm just...supplementing. and i don't think anyone is going to disagree with the fact that Contador, a professional cyclist, will out climb any (every?) cross fit guy...nor the inverse that the cross fit guy will decimate Contador doing cleans. the cross fit guy may even do the cleans using Contador just for shits and giggles.

so still, only one person answers the 'would you take the magic pill' question. interesting.

No one mentioned genetics... Kevin can drop Jake on a bike but Jake could choke him out on a wrestling mat... It is what it is

This has become the oddest way to go about the only race you care about. The only thing i can think of why is your gonna ride up to luke rip off your mtbnj jersey and start flexing in a wife beaters t while pounding PBR's.

This is pretty awesome. I love this image.

What's the magic pill question? I can't find it.

I just want to know one thing!

What the hell did you trade Jay Buhner for?!? He had
30 home runs, over 100 RBIs last year, he's got a rocket for an arm, you don't know what the hell you're doin'!!

Could I take that pill and become superman who does nothing? 'Cause then, yes, I would take it. But doing stuff ... that sounds like a lot of work. Just the name implies a level of responsibility I never want .. SUPERman. Meh. I'd rather just take a pill and become slightlyaboveaveragebutnotinawaythatstandsoutman.

Superhuman yo. The first 15 minutes of Hancock is the best super hero movie ever. Then the rest happened.
