Been looking for a decent deal on a slightly used mtb. Not sure which way I should lean ht or fs. Hes 13 just at 5' so need a small frame. Gonna let him get use to it on paved paths first then bring him thru some trails when he feels hes ready. Not sure if he'll stay with it so don't wanna drop alot until I am certain. Came across a couple of decent deals on small framed bikes, specs are on the links cause I know ?'s are always the components. Any feedback would be nice and help me sway one way or the other. 2009 Mongoose Otero lightly used full suspension $400 http://www.bikepedia.com/QuickBike/...brand=Mongoose&model=Otero+Super#.UgqMDJKsh8E 2009 Kona Shred lightly used HT $475 http://www.bikepedia.com/QuickBike/BikeSpecs.aspx?year=2009&brand=Kona&model=Shred#.UgqMSJKsh8E 2005 Fuji Panic NIB HT $400 http://www.bikepedia.com/QuickBike/BikeSpecs.aspx?year=2005&brand=Fuji&model=Panic+Air#. The Fuji has some good parts on it.

At that price range why buy used? I got my 9 year old a brand new Spec HardRock XS for about the same price. He takes it on trails by me Deer Park, KVSP and not just the double track or fire roads. No issues on the equip

I undertstand about the "better" components, but at his age and experience "better" components is IHMO a waste of money until they really start to like it. My son's bike is a 2012 Spec HardRock and it is more then enough bike for him at this point. Plus with buying new you get a warranty

I got my younger cousin a spec hard rock has well it's not really worth spending the money cause they grow out of it so fast well at least my younger cousin did..good luck with it but..I'm sure he will have a great time
