I'm in the market for a new saddle and a friend of mine told be some shops have a device that fits you for the correct size saddle. Unfortunetly his shop is kinda far from where I am, so does anyone know of any shops in the Bergen County area that can fit you for a saddle?

Thanks in advance

Might be a little far from BC, but I was in Effengers in Bound Brook the other day, they rent saddles for a weekend or the week. If you like the feel the rental comes off the price.

I'm sure most bike shops have someone that can help you pick out a saddle that fits. Many good shops in Bergen county I'd recommend westwood cycle or campmor, both have good selection. If you want to actually be "fit" with a machine I know shops that do the specialized body geometry fitting have this. Martys in morristown isnt very far and they do it. Jesse is the guy who fits you

Shops use a pad made of memory foam and simply measure the distance between the butt grooves. This method worked great for me.

I was just going to ask, jokingly, if they measure the width of your butt crack.

btw, do you get to keep the mold...put it in your house as wall art or an ashtray or something?

Not like that at all. You sit on a strip of memory foam until it shapes to you. Your sit bones make the deepest impressions and you take the measurment from the center of one to the impression on the other, use a trigonomic function and voila! you have ze seat size. No plaque for framing. Get over yourself.😀

I was thinking more low-brow when I wrote my reply... I was also shocked to learn that my sit bones were on the WIDER end of the scale. The fitting solved my comfort issues.

Sporting goods such as Efinger sporting goods that has a wide variety of saddles for selection and knowledgeable staff to suit your 'ass' for the proper saddle is the best way to go. The saddle is there to distribute your weight evenly and reduce pressure points as much as possible. Saddles are not meant to be a lazyboy in any sense, but you get the picture.

Tenafly Bicycle Workshop in Tenafly has demo saddles that you can try around the block for free and/or rent for a couple bucks to try on the trail. Also if you end up buying a new saddle the rental money goes towards the new saddle purchase price. Might be a good option. I try to think about how much time I would be sitting (FS, lots = cushy saddle vs SS, not so much = cool aero saddle) when I pick a saddle.
