Rumble in the Jungle 2014

I was wondering how you were marking the course in this!!!

How well does the Jungle drain? Do you think it will be deep mud-pits tomorrow for those who want to do a pre-ride?

It drains ok - yes, it will be wet, but it shouldn't be biblical mud. Rain is supposed to stop by midnight, sun out in the morning. Our volunteers went out pre-rain and cut nicks in all the usual puddle places to ensure quick draining. Wouldn't wear your favorite party shoes, but you should be able to ride it. 😉

Ha.

Well, this was the pre-ride at Wawayanda 2 weeks ago, so the bar has officially been set low. 😉

Thanks to Dylan for showing me the Cat 3 course this morning . Course was muddy but not that bad considering all the rain . I found out I'm old , slow, not good on rocks, and out of shape but I plan on starting and finishing my first race at the ripe old age of 53 and 3/4 !

Good for you. Never to old. I'm in the same range and will be doing my second race in the open fat bike category. Just looking to finish. If I have anything left I may join you in the cat 3.

Any cat 2 singlespeeders or cat 1's with a gear recommendation for Rumble tomorrow. 34x18 or 20. Usually race gears, but don't think that bikes going to make it tomorrow! Thanks for the look...

Our in house Cat. 1 singlespeeder rides a 34x19 on a 27.5 bike - which is the same as a 34x20 on a 29er.

Your mileage may vary.

I rode the Cat 2 course today. It wasn't as bad as I expected... then again I was expecting the worst. There were about two billion rocks, but they were on the smaller side. Not the big pumpkin-sized rock garden type.

However even by 4:00pm a good percentage of the course was still not marked. We kept getting lost. I hope it will be well marked by the start tomorrow? It would be a shame an unmarked turn to ruin someone's race.
