Rib Protection?

A few weeks back I took a spill at Deer Park and fractured 2 ribs, I'm out for 4 more weeks. Does anyone out there use anything for rib protection? I was recommended G Form compression shirt and it looks pretty good, nice and light and not restrictive. Anyone use this or have any recommendations? I don't wanna have a repeat and be out another 8 weeks!!

Sorry about your injury. Broken Ribs are a pain in the ass. They hurt all the time, painful to breathe and sleep.

The only time I wear a chest protector is on Downhill days. I have a 661 Core Protector Suit for hot days and Fox Downhill Suit for warm days.

These are overkill for XC rides.

I think GForm shirt and 661 Sub Gear Padded shirt would be a good choice for XC rides, but I do not think they would offer enough protection to prevent ribs from being broken. The armor plate on both of them look thin and too small.

Good luck.

Thanks for the info!

if you're trying to do alittle bit of both, force field makes a cool chest protector that can go over a wicking base layer pretty well if you're ok with it being exposed

The best protection without wearing a dh suit is to developed muscle. Talk to a trainer. I assume chest, lats, obliques, abs.

3 ribs and a concussion

Glad to see I'm not the only one suffering from ribs. I just busted 3 and a slight concussion too. Painful isn't even the word. And on top of it, I'm going to miss riding during my favorite season.

Maybe I can get some bubble wrap and make it work...

I cracked a few ribs at stephens 2 months ago , I was back on the bike in three weeks but after every ride it was a bit tender . Its been 8 weeks and its still uncomfortable when i lean on the spot . My remedy was pain killers on the ride and mary jane after .

DAMN!! I feel lucky. Bubble wrap crossed my mind too😀 Maybe we'll have a mellow winter and you can get out then

KTM I felt ready to get back on after right around 3 weeks too. This was after thinking I only had bruised ribs (according to H'town Hosp) I decided, with much pressure from the old lady...ok she decided!🙂 to follow up with my Ortho and he found the fractured ribs. He said they weren't displaced at this point, but if I fall on them again before they completely heal, they would be and that was more time off the bike, so I decided to suck it up and play safe! I was told by others that the pain lingers for a long time, even after they heal. I'm ok with that...if I stopped doing things every time I was in pain, I would be sitting on the couch posting on MTB forums....🙄 Good luck to ya!!
