Question on Trails at mercer

I have never ridden mercer but am thinking about checking it out, as it appears to have a bunch of good beginner sections. From the trails to ride (red, blue, orange) which would be good for a beginner? Also, are the trails packed on the weekends? Just curious, as this is my first ride in years and I may be a bit rusty. Don't want to slow anyone down if its a single track. Also, does anyone know of any beginner rides for this park? I would be very interested as I currently ride alone and could use the help/tips. Thanks. 😀

All of the trails at MCP are beginner friendly. There are log obstacles and bridges in the park, but they are easily detoured around or you can just walk over them. The trails at MCP are heavily traveled at times. I would not worry about getting in anyone's way though. They will pass you when they can safely get around you. There are not any currently scheduled beginner rides at MCP, but keep an eye on the forums here and at JORBA.org for scheduled rides. Every once in awhile I lead a beginner paced ride out there and you are welcome to join us then. Hope you enjoy the trails out there.

Don't forget about that other tiny beginner group ride we occasionally go on...😉

Mercer Trails

southernerinnj pretty much nailed it none of the trails are going to be to tough Mercer is pretty flat I would suggest you park at the marina and take the red trail west to the dam jump on the orange and loop back on the yellow that would be a good start. Or if you want to try the log piles park in the east picnic area and take the Blue trail out to the rowing center and back There are a bunch of log piles small to big all have bypass trails and they present themselves differently in each direction The trail also has a couple of bridges to ride over

I live a couple of miles from the park and ussually ride in the late afternoon 4-5

email me ( smart.jorba at g mail .com )when you plan to go and I will try to join you

Thanks for the offer - really appreciate it. The afternoons are a bit tough due to my work schedule. I could do a later ride, while the weather is still good or a weekend ride. If you are up for a weekend run let me know and I can reach out to you.
Also, the tsunami we had today brings up another questions - what do you think the conditions will be like this weekend? It is supposed to rain Friday. Will a day be good enough to dry it up or does a take a bit more?

For a while it looked like MCP had rebounded from the monsoon in June. This past week's daily storms, however, are leaving their mark. With the forecast calling for more of the same for the next couple of days... well, let's just say you might want to line up a Plan B for your weekend. 🙂

Whatever happens, please try not to ride the trails if they're muddy. They took some real damage this spring due to that.

Id say that the MCP will be off limits until next week. I rode there yesterday, and there were a good amount of muddy piles. Now with this downpour and the upcoming forecast MCP will be mud city.
I am deff down for a ride in the next few weeks when the conditions are back to prime.

Thanks Dogberry! After last nights downpour and expected rain again Friday the trails will be a mudfest on Saturday. Mercer will need at least a few days before it recovers
That said I'm sure there will be plenty of riders out on Saturday making a mess of the place
