Prelim 2015 MASS Schedule

Last year French Creek was on Mothers day Saturday and had 289 pre. reg X/C. This year they moved back two weeks to the typical Wawayanda weekend.

I'm always a fan of Saturday races. Race Saturday, go for longer recovery ride Sunday.

this x10000

nothing is worse than sitting around on a saturday because you are racing on a sunday, even though i tried to adopt the woody philosophy last year "I'd rather have a ride ruin my race than a race ruin my ride" or something like that.

There are more people that have to work on Saturday then there are people that go to church on Sunday. It is much easier to get volunteers for a Sunday. A Sunday race often draws more racers too.

The volunteers are often more critical than the racer turnout. As much as you may want to get things (races) done on Saturday...so do the people giving up their day to host a good race.

IE, shop peeps

That's funny. In my experience, of every 100 shop peeps, maybe 1 signs up for a Sunday race. Of every 10 that sign up, 1 shows. Maybe.

The reality is that course setup on a Friday taxes the shit out of your volunteer base. If this weren't an issue you would see more Saturday races. Everyone would rather race Saturday, both racers and promoters and volunteers. But the logistics make it difficult.

For me Sunday's in late June and July are better because the kids have summer league swim races Wednesday nights and Saturday mornings.

I would like to hear more opinions on this Saturday vs Sunday as race days.

you know the argument is Saturdays are bike shop days and you lose those guys how many i dont know but Saturdays are like filet mingon for racers...

How many times has Pearl showed up at the shop on Saturday in order to have his bike ready for Sunday? Careful what you wish for boys.

For the record, I agree with Pearl's argument for Saturday racing. Get it done and out of the way so I can focus on other things and enjoy the remainder of my weekend. OTOH, I know others feel differently and people will complain either way.

Promoters,
Don't choose Saturday or Sunday based on feedback from racers. They have proven time and time again that someone will complain, about something, every time. If you are are striving to create a better event, do whatever you want to make that happen.

I love Saturday races and I wish there were more of them. That said, the reasons listed above for there not being more of them are totally legit.
