Quick update. This is my first full build so I'm pretty excited about it. Work got started Friday night. Itswin on the board here sold me the headset plus some other bits, but more importantly has an awesome set of tools and helped me set up the fork and press the head. I could have paid a shop to do the fork but trying to do this myself so big props to Win.

Anyway, as pictured it's getting rolling, I'm still missing an item or two, so lacking a better plan I just started bolting stuff up. Crankset is just set there, going to add a bash Monday. I'm planning 1x10, XT except for the cranks. Leaving the granny on for now in case I wimp out or the drivetrain jumps off too much. Going to use an unramped ring with the bash. If it falls off the inside I'll have to do something else.

Tonight was a blast as I was hand filing washers to make the rear brake mount fit. And I just noticed I put the front tire on backwards. Sigh. I'm hoping to be able to ride it next weekend but....😀

Generally I'm a bargain shopper so some of the parts were a stretch. But Jenson had the cranks and shifters for a great deal, the front wheel was on sale, etc. The fork is the wild card. Was the only thing in a 120mm non tapered 15qr that fit my budget. Reviews are good so we shall see. Updates as things progress. Sorry if the pic is cruddy I was tired!

Looking good Dave! My advice on the 1X10...get a singlespeed ring or at least one that has longer teeth. I have a 1X9 set up on one of my Voodoos and it never drops the chain...the ring is a 33T from a singlespeed Truvativ crank.

Thanks gang. Walter, the way things have been going with me and hardtails, if you wait a couple months it'll be up on the block! I hope not. 😀

Its got quite interesting dimensions, really stretching the limits of how short a wheelbase you can manage with the tire size. I rode itswin's around the block and it felt very agile. We shall see.

Ice: I've got a blackspire mono ring, I had good luck with the same setup 1x9 on the misfit. Just worried if the 1x10 will be harder on chain line.

I hung the brakes today, what the hell? Ok, I can see leaving extra hose for larger frame sizes. But it's like they measured a XXXXL frame, then added another damn foot on the rear. I just hate cutting and bleeding. Grr.

Yeah, exactly on the fork (what make is it, btw?).

Looking real nice. I've got a Morphine I picked up used and built up a couple years back and am real happy with it (my avatar pic is from the head tube). Should be a fun ride. Def post pics when completed.

I can't wait to see this bike out on the trails.
You and me both!
I like this bike... Specifically the steep top tube angle... Nice look
I may have gotten my poor mans ByStickel, similar idea.

It's a Manitou Tower Pro. The fork arch design is because...thats how they do it? I honestly couldn't find squat about the idea behind the design except some vague forum stuff about it being possibly stronger. Except you then have to lengthen it for clearance. Dunno. So we're back to "its a Manitou, that's why".😀

Thanks for the props! Big push tonight to try and get more done. I can never decide the right brake hose length...

Thanks Sean!

Drivetrain set in place, have to cut the chain yet. And the brake hoses...

Little more compete:

That bike looks like it's ready to get dirty.

Dirty? Who said anything about dirty?

I threw pedals on and rode around the basement. That must be progress. I'm stressed about all the things that might fall off. I should trust myself more, no? Still have to cut and bleed the rear line, front is long but ok for now.

Details:
*bought the park tool cable cutters. They have a bit of a learning curve. Seems a fast, aggressive cut is best.
*Ten speed chain feels like a toy. The non removable quick link is a bummer.
*so far I like my SRAM cassettes over the XT. Time will tell, probably.
*shifters came with cables. Call me if you need cables, I now have many.😀
*either I'm better at setting up shimano RD's vs. sram, or they're easier. Hmm.
*the bars I ordered for it are going to be awesome!
*Had to take off the granny to remove the middle ring and didn't bother to put it back on. Oh well, just a little more committed to the 1x idea.
*made my first ghetto tubeless valve stem from an old tube. Like!
*lusted after that crankset far a while. Not disappointed, it's sweet.
*Had previously used the plain bbg bash. Really like this oval hole design.
