We were warned it will not be pretty and sandy is the perfect description of this hook. The entrance road is milled(prepared for paving)so the bike path was my option. The bike path was ok for a while but had to dismount and walk the road bike over sand that piled up on the path this happened about 8 times. Also some roads that cross the path were dug out and dismount was necessary. The closer one arrived to the Houses on the bay side the better the trail.Hills and hills of sand near the beaches. They might be the new sand dunes. The beaches that were open looked level.Alot of the shrubs in the bird area looked dead, the holly forest looked dead. There was a man at the cement bunker with two cannons pointed at the ocean near north beach.🙂He seemed to be military. He said only 2 areas were not damaged by the storm the bunker and the lighthouse.I noticed over the years there is always someone stationed here. There was a red and gold flag flying in front that is new.It looked like a marine flag, not sure.I thought I was going to be the only person there.WRONG, there are allot of people more cyclists than any group.I never encountered so many woman bikers in one place.I'll guess about 50.Everyone was outwardly friendly. The roadies, bird watchers ,hikers ,dog walkers fisherman all talked to each other.Oh yea I asked 4 park workers if riding on the beach was allowed with a fat bike.None of them new the answer. They suggested I seek out the head Park Ranger and ask him.He wasn;t where they said he would be.Sorry.🙂
