Hi, my name is Jon and I used to ride many years ago. I recently purchased a new mountain bike and am looking to ride some local trails. I live on the edge of Mahlon Dickerson reservation and am looking for some guidance where to start. Any information or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Welcome!

i'm sure you'll hook up with someone up there!
maybe jump in the north nj meetup group? (meetup.com)

I got the 2015 specialized rockhopper 29er. It's great for what I need, so far I love it! The trails are supposed to be great, it's just a little overwhelming with so much land and trails right on my door step. Trying to research and find a good starter trail. I saw some mention of one called the cascade trail, might try it this weekend or one night after work!

Welcome Jon... I just got back on the Sattle a few months ago after 14 years. Hope you have lots of fun!

Mahlon is right in my backyard as well..its a great place that will challenge you and build your skills quickly. a good way to start is picking up a trail map at the trailhead. they are good enough for learning the layout of the park.

the cascade trail you mentioned is blazed purple on the map, making a loop out of the blue, orange, purple and yellow trails will give you a nice long ride through the whole park and give you a feel for all of the terrain.

Welcome! Mahlon is in my backyard also and is a great place to ride.

Here is a great place to start: MTBNJ Trail Directory

You have some maps in there plus some gps routes - if you have a gps you can download the routes to your unit which should help you not get too lost.

I would really appreciate any guidance. I am just beginning so if you can deal with that then that's amazing! I guess PM me with details. Thanks!
