New rules:

It's going to be my first year racing cross - coming from DH therefore I plan on breaking all the rules. 😀

Dumb rapid fire reply and I'm 37 - no excuses. Going to need some insight from you guys to keep from being a complete idiot my first race. It's going to be an interesting learning experience.

Weight is a major issue with the disc brake rule. I've read mixed reviews on this subject, all ranging from "better stopping power = faster speeds" to "hot disc rotors near my legs = bad" to weight.

If you think about it, 'cross frames will need to have stronger seat stays to accommodate the strain from the disc caliper. Likewise, you have a limited selection of brakes to choose from. Its pretty much Avid BB7, which will be fine for the Sram sponsored teams and not so much for the TRP teams. Further, wheel selection is very limited as far as tubular carbon wheels. Carbon wheels will probably have a longer life-span since the braking surface will take less abuse.

Its a silly rule change. There are many more important things the UCI could worry about than disc brakes...

Bingo. I think Mercer, HPCX and Beacon are the only UCI races in the immediate area but o don't anyone who is Cat 3 or 4 is going to be seriously looked over.

Probably not. A few people in the open SS class weren't even running rear brakes, which is a pretty obviously thing.
