New E-bike legislation in NJ

I called the office of Nicholas Scutari today. (this law came from his desk)

They admitted that this law was aimed at E-motorcycles and NOT pedal-assist e-bicycles.

(732) 827-7480

Call his office and let them know that you are concerned that e-bicycles do not need any registration / insurance. They have to take your call.

I also came across this:

So this is the guy that was bought by the insurance companies? Because the more I understand about this law , the more it looks like an insurance money grab.

Saturday afternoon, my wife and I had walked to our local tavern to see some friends, have a cocktail and get some takeout. Noticed a kid, probably younger than 15 with his parents, had a full face moto helmet sitting on the table. As we were leaving, all three of them were at the bikerack where the kid was mounting an e-moto like what is shown in @jdog 's post. Dad was clearly buzzed and telling the kid to be careful riding home from the BAR. As we walked home, the kid went by us on the road doing well over 25mph. I just shook my head.

This is his phone number. They have to talk to you by law so give him a shout and let them know that you’re not stoked about this.

Even if it take five minutes out of your life, this is the most impactful thing you can do

And for those who think that this does not impact them, there’s no question that the insurance world is frothing at the idea of dollars collected and there’s no thinking that bicycles would not be next. New Hampshire already tried to do it.

Need to start making license plate mounts for all those dam roadbikes. Going to need back of saddle and mounts for both flat and drop bars. The township of Alpine could make a fortune ticketing 9w. Nothing like a little taxation at gun point.👍
