New E-bike legislation in NJ

and this...

Changing the subject (actually getting it back on track) I did reach out to my representatives in the State Assembly, and Andrea Katzs' office did reach out to me. Spoke with her rep and emphasized that new laws are not needed. These new laws are lumping e-bikes with e-moto's. The need to register and carry insurance should not be required. I pointed out that the two headlining accidents involving "e-bikes" were actually e-motorcycle's (Surron's) which by definition are motorcycle's which would require registration, and insurance. If anything instead of passing new laws that nobody is really going to follow enforce the current one's. Grab the Surron's that are unregistered/uninsured and cart them to the crusher. That's what NYC does when they (do) snag dirt bikers acting like tools on the streets.

He's not wrong... the problem is the responsible manufacturers already comply. The ones that are just in for a quick $$ and DGAF... don't and won't...

The max-watt race is definitely something manufacturers should be following.

Like I posted on his post, it's race to get them banned for good. I had a customer come in to test a Levo 4 and as much as he wanted it, left without buying because he wants to wait until the laws are worked out. That's been a common theme here the past few weeks. I did sell a Creo SL2 yesterday because it's the least e-bike looking e-bike we sell. Meanwhile, the Surron kids have stopped in the last 2 days and they seem to have no idea what's going on.

And that the industry leaders (mainly manufacturers and possibly distribution and retail chain) have the highest vested interest in straightening these matters out and getting legislators on board because everyone on that side of the barrel-head has the most skin in the game.
