Music

ahhhh TV on the Radio....Return to Cookie Mountain is a nice all around record, better than Dear Science I do believe. Calexico's newest "carried to dust" is a solid southwestern piece. Check for their EP Convict Pool featuring extra spicy covers of Minutemen's "Corona" and Love's "Alone again or".

Well depending on you're taste out there I have recently been listening to and recommend....

Mos Def "The Ecstatic"
Alejandro Escovedo " Real Animal"
and all the bonus laden Pavement reissues out and about.

I could go on for days about this music shit.....

My favorites of 2009 thus far are:

1) Fever Ray - Self Titled (Electronica/Awesome)
2) Grizzly Bear - Veckatimest (Rock / Folk Rock)
3) Patrick Watson - Wooden Arms (Pop Rock - Like a Folkier Radiohead)

Havent heard 1 and 3. New Grizz Bear is def. enjoyable......i dont think rock/folk rock can properly describe their sound. Then again I have no better suggestions. The video for "two weeks" is very well done.
Any Wilco heads have thoughts on the new record? I would argue that they dont make bad records. I would also argue that their days of less conventional rock records (YHF, AGiB) true alt/country (AM, Being There) and pop melody overdose (summerteeth) were much more interesting than there last two releases. That being said Wilco remains to be the most talented rock band I have ever seen perform in terms of evolving songs into something other than their LP incarnation w/o turning them into self indulgent solo-fests with no real identity (sorry Phish fans).

I don't know how to classify Grizzly Bear without driving people away. Chilled out Rock music is how i find them. They are often classified as folk.

If you like that album and haven't checked out the Department of Eagles album from last fall i highly suggest it. It is a side project of half of the group, and i like it as much as this new album.

I have listened to Wilco's new album. I am not huge on them but enjoyed their mini jam sessions that they closed some of their songs with from their previous album. The song One Wing from their new album is a stand out track for me.

anyone else use pandora? i use it at work and it really changes up the styles... i enjoy hearing new stuff instead of my itunes on the same crap i listen to every day.

Yes, Dept of Eagles is solid.

Im not sure what you've heard of Wilco but I would start with A.M. and work my way up if you havent already. Their first four records are masterworks to me.

Pearl, I havent used Pandora but know peoples who love it. I generally download mass amounts of music using bit torrent. Dig through it over time and if I feel super.strong about an artist I'll throw them my $$ in support by buying the LP (vinyl lives) or seeing them play. But yeah Im gonna have to give pandora a try.

Anyone see the new Neil Young Archival box set that was just released on blu-ray? Well out of my price range, but damn its stacked with goodies.......unreleased tracks, live shows, video interviews, news paperclippings etc. First of its kind in terms of format and depth.

J you've got some classic material (both new and old) listed there.....Pixies, Iron & Wine, Elliot Smith, Bon Iver, Modest Mouse, A tribe called quest, Built to Spill, etc etc etc.

I know most people wrote off Pearl Jam years ago (or from day one) but last week I saw Ed Vedder play solo in philly......if you havent listened to the Into the Wild sndtrck you might check that out. You wont be dissapointed unless you're of the soul-less variety. Opening for him was Liam Finn (son of Neil Finn...crowded house/split endz). Great show.

yes....Pandora ROCKS!....I use it all the time.

I've heard a lot about that soundtrack but always forget to check it out...😱

Pretty much what i do. I DL and delete about three albums a day. Mostly stuff that is independent and not covered by the RIAA.

If you like Alt Country, have you listened to Cotton Jones - Paranoid Cacoon? And The Papercuts - You Can Have What You Want is another good chill rock album and in my top 5 of 2009. So far, other than a few gems i've been pretty disappointed with 2009. But the fall usually lands the best music.

Wow What Music I like...
When working out and riding... But not all ways.

I love all types of music.

Everthing from Anthrax to Led Zep.
Jazz to Ludwig Van Beethoven.

Funny, I'm listening to my Pearl Jam Pandora station now. I'm a fan, I think they've done a good job remaining consistent. So if you liked them then you should like them now.

I'm a huge fan. One of my favorite bands of all time.

I have this on dvd, so I've watched it about a zillion times already.

I'm a huge GBV fan myself, just didn't see the post. Alien Lanes, Bee Thousand, Isolation Drills, Earthquake Glue -- a lot of great great albums.
