Le Tour!

So eventually, adding more teams, more cars, and more motorcycles is going to have negative effects on the overall race.

I know, hindsight is 20/20 but Christ this is absurd.

This is what happens when you get hit by a car and thrown into a barbed wire fence. Ouch!!! Incredibly, he got up and continued. Not sure if he finished.

I'm pretty sure he finished the stage. He and Flecha were the first 2 to ever get the "Fighting Spirit Award" according to my iPhone app (NBC TDF ALLAccess).

That picture is sick. I'm still flabbergasted by today's stage. Even Ligett was speechless at one point.

they need to import Zoller's soccer ladies to the tour podium...but they won't cause the french are gaaaaaaaaa.
am i allowed to say that?

man, those crashes were horrible. Ben is right, the first week is always full of crashes, but this year it was esepcially bad and the car hitting the guy was just stupid. Did anyone see the one with Contador where he just shot out of the peleton and into the barriers? Dude is getting beat up.

I was watching that and let out an "OHMYGOD!!" so loud that my wife came running and yelled at me that I nearly gave her a heart attack. Seeing that in slow motion and seeing that guy get thrown into the wire fence was just horrifying. Phil was saying once he got back going again that obviously even if he didn't make the cutoff they would certainly not disqualify him. When he got up there to accept the polka dot jersey you could see his emotions and nerves where shot and completely understandably so.

Driver completely overeacted to the tree that was very close to the road on the driver side however he looks like he could of course slowed down unless he thought he would cause a pile up behind him but my thinking was, stay as close to the damn tree and even if he took off his mirror with the tree that would still have been a better emergency choice. That would have likely given him another foot of space and certainly could have avoided the swerve motion which gave no one any reaction time at all. That was such a bad split second decision. I am almost expecting to read that the driver had this unfinished text on his phone when the investigation unfolds at the moment of the crash:
"DOODZ, TURN ON YOUR TV! THIS GUY LEFT THIS CAR RUNNING WHEN I WAS NEAR THE PORTA POTTIES SO I JUMPED IN IT AND NOW I AM LIKE 2 FEET AWAY FROM THE LEADERS THIS IS AMAZI
end transmission

Im actually suprised after watching for the first time that this kinda of stuff doesnt happen more often. Seems like a complete circus out there with cars, bikes, motorcycles, people and some kind of giant cartoon stuffed animal jogging along side.

That's the clean bottle

That crash with car hitting the riders was inexcusable and horrific. Its mind boggling how something like that could happen in a race of this magnatude.

I'm with Utah, I'm surprised this doesnt happen more often...there is too much shit going on, riders, motorcycles, cars, fans, etc....
I had the same reaction as Rob when I was watching, although my wife didnt come downstairs to check on me.

That's because you're always drinking and yelling and swearing and shit.

Apparently this sort of thing does happen all the time, just not so much with the car taking people out.

Rest day is good for the riders but work particularly sucks today. I can't imagine how much it will suck in 2 weeks from now.

It was worse when the tour was on at dinner time too. So basically anytime of day you could watch. Thursday and Saturday should see some fireworks, so plan on getting all of your work done on Wednesday and Friday.

That was completely insane. The driver should be fired, should've slowed down. That swerve appeared to me the actions of an unattentive driver. That picture on pg2 of this thread is super gnarly. That the guy was able to pull himself together and finish was amazing. More stories like these should get coverage instead of the constant stream of doper stories(although this year has been quiet). I'll always watch the Tour, I love the day to day strategy and I could listen to Liggett read the phone book and still be interested. Looking forward to the bigger Mtn stages and Andy winning this year.

I never said she came down to check on me, I said she came down to yell at me that I nearly gave her a heart attack. Your statement would make the assumption that she was worried about me which would be incorrect.

So for those who know these things. Does Voekler not have any real chance at all? Every article is basically ignoring him as being pertinent at all. Is he just not a thread in the mountains?

It seems not. Although he has had an amazingly high percentage of season of wins when it comes to a climb finish or breakaway.
He also does that crazy stuff with his tongue when he is really pushing the effort. Maybe the powers that be don't find that good for TV so they write him off.

I have to say I am glad we are off that page with the wire damage, that pic was really disturbing to me
