Knight Rider

I've been looking to get into night riding. My brother works overnights so its the only time i have to ride with him. I was wondering where to ride(i live in sussex county) and where i could pick up a good light kit.

Night time riding is not allowed in almost all the parks, unless organized with permission/permits from the park. Some parks have longer hours than others so once dlst kicks in you can be inside the park for a little bit after sundown.

Now if you wanted to buy lights say for night time commuting or something of the like, most of the better bike shops carry lighting systems that will do just fine. It just comes down to how much you want to spend.

I use a helmet light as opposed to a handlebar mount, so i can look ahead at my path. It takes some getting used to but it's pretty good. Optimally you one of each is good, I might add a handle bar mount this year

whatever you end up getting, be sure to carry a spare flashlight in your backpack with you!!

last thing you need is to be stuck with a broken light out in the woods/commute home

that being said i personally use a magicshine which is cheap and bright. i can't speak for its reliability since i only recently got it

I've had to replace 2 batteries on the Magic Shine due to the connector going bad on me. Having said that I'll probably get another one since it's cheap.

lumese

I don't really how many lumes you looking for but I been using nite rider lights for several years. I broke out my minewt dual this week on a morning ride . I also bought the niterider helmet light. I also have a front blinky and at least one rear blinky two on my traning road bike. Ringwood has been my favorite nite place. At lewis morris I felt like I was trying to cross border illehgally. I imagine in sussex you shpuld be able to fine a place. You probably need to be on the down lo. Maybe park your car away frombtrail head as most towns ypu can't park on street 2 to 4 am

Also stick to a loop you know winter is coming and you don't want to get stuck with no lighy as stuff looks different in the dark

I have an old Nite Rider HID light that I purchased back in 2002 and a Nite Rider Pro 700 LED, which I bought last year. They were both a little pricy, but when I ride with them in the woods, it turns night into day. It is amazing how bright they are.

I usually ride with the LED on my helmet and the HID on my bar. The HID light was a little heavy on my helmet, but the LED is not too heavy.

I figured most places would be "illegal" riding. I was hoping I'd get lucky and find one trial that opened it up. If what the fellas from jorba were saying holds true the newish connected trails at the dickerson mine in mine hill may allow night rides. Whether or not they need to be pre-organized and notified is beyond my knowledge. I have a camping head lamp i got a little while ago that pushes about 36 lumens.I've only used it in dusk-ish conditions and on the road. I guess ill go ask around at marty's see what they have on hand.

The camping lamp wont do the trick, you're going to need something a bit brighter. I use a Light and Motion Stella 200L which has been awesome. Nice bright light and a long burn time. Not sure what Marty's has but I bet if you tell them your intentions they will show you the light🙄😉

Agreed Majic shine is the best and cheapest out there. I also had the female end of the connector go bad by disconnecting from the plug. However, I hacked it open and re soldered wires and taped it up. Works good now, but battery lasts for maybe 2 hours max also if its left on the side for a day i need to recharge it every time i do night riding.

I've been thinking about doing this because I have some extra connectors from the extension wire and the splitter they give you. Makes me feel better about it now that I know you've done it. I'll give it a try soon.

The magic shine is bright and it is cheap. It does however have a narrow spot lens that makes one distinct spot very bright and everything else super washed out. I tested is a few weeks back just to see. Frankly it gave me a headache.

I personally have the Light and motion 1400 lumen Seca which is more light than anyone needs. i have been riding this for some time and it basically is like riding in the day time. Totally crazy, silly money and tech but kinda worth it. This thing is plenty bright on low beam. 10 hours on low.

I recommend the Stella 300. This is pretty much the best bang for the buck:
