Iphone "other"

"Other" what the hell is it? and how do I get ride of it?😕

I can't even update my OS because I don't have enough free space. I have 345 photos and only a handful of apps. I don't put music on my phone and I don't download apps, yet the phone's storage nearly full? How is that possible?

Iv'e looked all over the net and it seems to be a common problem. Not one forum Iv'e visited has a solid answer.

I did a factory reset and that only caused the Other to grow in size. Even just sitting here it has grown 2% points and I haven't even done anything? Iv'e deleted all my text messages and a shit load of photos, yet it still grows.

Shit is like the blob.

This will show you what's using all your storage. For me, my camera roll is 3G. You may have taken a video in those 345 pics that us eating up half your storage. It will list out all the apps and tell you what the pigs are, from biggest to smallest. Every app caches crap, so you can probably take them on 1 at a time. Some apps also store a shit ton of data, like if you have a language dictionary it may be a space hog. Etc etc, rinse & repeat, YMMV, void where prohibited.
 
Nothing you can do son. Ive got 6 gig of other. Tried deleting icloud back up, tried full restore from back up. Just had my phone warrantied for a button issue and still have 6gig of other after restoring. Even the apple store folk didnt have an answer for me. Best they could say was i either unplugged the phone mid backup or update or its just background data the phone needs to run. Neither answer is sufficient. Its annoying because i cant back up to icloud and if i want to update anything i have to delete something else.
 
lol. Where is the rest of the storage? is it an 8 gig phone?

Mount it as a USB device and just delete it.

Yeah. Iv'e heard this on just about every forum Iv'e gone to. The "other" grows every day. What happens when it gets to the point that my storage is completely full? At this rate that will be in a month. Will the phone no longer work?

Anyway. I still have yet to try Norm's suggestion. I'll try that later. Believe it or not, I have never used iCloud. Iv'e always backed up to my home computer.
 
Humor me. Do an iCloud backup and under 'manage storage' peep the size of the 'next backup' with all the apps turned on as they are. Go down the list and disable all the apps you don't GAS about (you can always manually put them back). I would actually disable all the apps (they should automatically be sorted by largest to smallest) so you have a clean backup of just your settings and shit because somewhere you have a corrupt data, I'm almost certain of it.

Ok, now do an iCloud backup. After that go into 'general' and reset your phone. When it comes back up, restore from that iCloud backup and you should have a clean phone with your settings and no data on it (if you disabled all the options). Update your phone and put your apps back as you see fit.

EDIT: by reset your phone I mean all content and settings.
 
Oh and I do give a shit about the apps. The only apps I have are Facebook, Tapatalk, google maps,instigram and shizam. I use them all.

I'll try this when I get home tho. Thanks for the suggestion!
 
Apps dont affect "other". You can turn off all the apps and free up space to just back up the phone but unless u keep them off you wont be able to back up again with the apps back on.

Bill's right, they don't effect other. I'm just trying to start with a clean slate from jump since this has been going on forever. Do everything manually from scratch, 1 by 1.
