Have ridden alone in most of the mountain ranges in the US, miles away from civilisation, generally without anyone knowing where I am 😀

I'm solo all the time unfortunately , wish I could ride with more people, that when I can challenge my self the most

I'm new to the mt bike world so for me it has been solo 100% on my rides so far. Have two friends who ride, one is waiting for his bike to get fixed and the other I haven't been able to motivate. I don't mind solo rides though. I snowboard and I would say outside of group trips and the occasional day trip with someone I ride solo 70+ % of the time .

I ride alone most of the time. Many friends and family say they want to ride but when I ask for a ride date and time they can't make it.It is too hot,too cold, windy, chance of rain ,almost dark ,my bike is in the shop.

Add to this "its too sandy" 😉 I ride 3 Saturdays alone, so on the 4th.week, I can lead a group ride.🙄

I'm about 50/50 alone on trail or road.

Alone on the trail, I take fewer risks and don't go as far, but I'll take the time to appreciate the little things like flora, fauna and fungi. On the road, I do like long solo rides to unfamiliar destinations with or without company but I'll tend to pay less attention to the little things if I'm not riding with someone.

Both bikes are back home now so i may be up for a Tues or Weds morning as well.

Back on the topic of the thread, i'm solo somewhere around 80-90% of the time. Been getting out primarily with group rides recently, but normally i am on my own just due to timing (not many people can make it out mid-day mid week).

I try to get in on a couple of group type MTB rides every year when they're posted up and align w/ my schedule, but I'd say at least 90% of the time I'm solo even though I enjoy riding with people way more. As for road, I've ridden with someone a grand total of one time. Gotta work on that. That whole drafting thing is for real....

This goes along with riding alone, and riding without a helmet. The H_BBY tells me of a news article about a man hiking who fell and bangs his head and gets amnesia. 🙁 Poor fella!

Imagine riding your bike and falling and banging your head and not remembering who you are. UGH! what a bummer.

Would any of you who typically ride alone, if you saw another lone rider in the lot, ask if you could ride together for safety? Or do you still go it alone?
Just curious.

Lone riders...do you at least have a road ID bracelet or other form of ID on you?

As for pm's...I think I got everyone who asked 😛

Just about always a lone wolf. I don't really jive well in groups.

It is not all that easy to find a riding doppelgänger, so at some point you are either holding your riding partners up or one of them is holding you up. I know my pacing is a little strange on the trails, so I am much more content plugging in a set or earbuds and taking care of myself.

I only recently got into riding on the road to help me shed some weight and give me an alternate workout to the gym during the week. However, I only have a fixed gear roadie so I have been taking that all over the place on 10-25 mile rides after work. I know that I would be a boat anchor alongside anyone with a proper geared bike in better health than myself, so I just strike out on my own.

The only place I refuse to ride alone is Mountain Creek Bike Park. Too much chance of injury, and I prefer the odd duck trails that may only see a handful of riders a day, so not worth the chance on that one.

I ride alone all the time. I carry ID with a phone #, and I always tell someone who has access to "find my iPhone" where I'll be. Sometimes I wonder if I'm just asking for trouble but most places I ride and the times I ride are popular, meaning there are usually other riders or hikers/runners around. I've had a few close calls with deer at Mercer that bolt out across the trail so it does make me nervous at times. I'd like to ride with others but time/place never seem to work out.

Depends on how shady they look. The shadier the better. Sometime I run into people on the road or mtn where their pace seems similar to mine, I'll talk to them and we ride for a while. Haven't done it much out of the lot, maybe a few times. I'd be more apt to ask if it's my first time at the park and want to follow, but I know how to ride pretty much all the parks in NJ now.

Mostly ride alone

I actually prefer to ride alone most of the time. But, discretion being the better part of valor, I avoid riding Allamuchy North by myself on a weekday afternoon in the winter, for instance. They'll find your frozen lifeless body in the spring.

Thanks for all the responses. I enjoy lone riding as it clears my mind more than group rides. I've had people question my sensibilty as to the "what ifs" out alone in the woods. You can't let that dictate your life. Good to see I am part of the majority when it comes to solo riding.
Luke, thanks for the Google App, very cool.
