Homemade GU

i thought this was going to be one of those threads that is horrible, but you just have to look.

Just train harder. Honey ain't going to solve your problems, sweetheart.

Have you ever tried just using honey? I got the idea from Utah. I'll usually snag a few packets from the kitchen at work if I know I'm going for a ride. You could also buy a jar and pour it into one of those squeezable flask things which would make it easier to take in while pedaling.

Absolutely not. The bear-shaped bottle goes right in the jersey.

i tried. i found a recipe online that was molasses and honey with some other stuff mixed in. it tasted pretty bad...but i still used it b/c i made it.

i'll likely try to make another "batch" but i'll need to refine it. a lot.

^ you were the one who told me molasses and honey, I once blamed kurt by mistake for this. You owe me new taste buds! That was goddam awful, though im sure I didnt mix it correctly.

Pure honey works fine for me. Im too cheap to use gu packets all the time. Actually, more often now I eat solid food. Gu mixed into the flask with honey was pretty good too.

yeah, it probably was. and yeah, it was TERRIBLE, especially at the percentages i mixed it at and likely told you to. i'll perfect it over the next month. what else do i have to do?

If you don't mind me derailing the thread slightly, I'm curious what your motivation is. Dietary, Financial or are you just one of those people that insist on reinventing the wheel?

I really wanted to try something different. I only really eat Gu's during a race. I use the flasks and figured I could make it by the batch...since I'll be eating it 2 times a month

Honey and blackstrap molasses is good. Yes, it does help if you like molasses. I prefer to stick with solid food, mostly Clif bars cut into bitesize pieces in a zip lock bag. I also mix up sustained energy in my bottles.
