Here we go again

A great big thanks to the renegade trail builder who has now got the attention of the Park Officials. I was getting ready to enjoy a ride today when my Park Rep. pulled into the lot and let me hear about your new trails. Be aware that they plan to close these trails and involve the Park Police, you better cut the shit because they are looking for you, some are mountain bikers so you will never know when they've spotted you. Hopefully we can avoid any further actions by the park against our user group.

I'm surprised you offer a warning. Let him/her/them be caught and dealt with.

It is a shame you have to deal with this nonsense. We should be focused on good volunteerism. Not self-policing and image management.

At least your continued efforts appear to have developed a nice relationship with the park officials. Other parks are too quick to lay blame on the entire community of MTBers and threaten closures or other knee jerk reactions.

any idea where it is so we can keep a eye out? I'd change my route to go by where ever this is to catch the fuckers.

@ Ben..The warning is issued because I, like the park, want it to stop. Part of the park reps anger is that he feels this builder is casting a negative light on the work ATUG/JORBA has done here. I informed him that I want no part of the "policing", I just want to work the trails.

@ Keroberos... Look for trail closed signs in the coming days/weeks. The park will be putting them up. If you should catch them in the act, do not engage them, just ride away and call the park office 732-938-2371 and let them handle it.

It is nonsense. i dont see the point, there are plenty of 'legal trails' out there, and plenty of legal dates to work on the trails.

But at the same token (to play devils advocate) perhaps these rogue builders (at all parks, not just Allaire) do not know about the TM days, or mtbnj, etc... It would be good to have updated bulletin boards at the trail heads with maps, TM dates, etc...

We have all of that at the kiosk. Sadly, some feel that because they pay taxes, they can do what they want on "public property". I've heard that one before and had to laugh.....I think J-dog may remember that day.😉

BTW, the idea about posting this on this forum is not to target most of it's users....it's kinda preaching to the choir here.... I hope the rogue builders lurk, and see their actions are having a very negative impact on our user group.

ok..i don't know the names of most of the trails out there...still getting use to some...but what side of the road is this?? I only ask bc i saw someone out there last wkend doing "trail work" to some existing trails... just nodded my head and rode on. I don't think this is what your talking about but who knows...

These trails are on the parking lot side One near the switchback climb from the fisherman's road, and the other near the RC airplane field off of the orange trail. Basically, if you see someone out there doing trail work and it's not a park employee( uniform) or during a JORBA tm, they don't belong there and you should ride by and call the park office once you are far enough away. edit: face slapper, vine removal, and trash removal are acceptable...trail building or reshaping are not allowed.

Well put Ben..

Well that sucks. Why can't they just include themselves in a clean up day with others, rather than do it on their own.

I don't understand why some think they can work on someone's land and it being ok.

Keepin' an eye open.

A lot of the problem is knowing that you CANT build stuff.

You can dig up an old post by me when I wanted to put up some TTF's. I figured its the woods, why not? I never knew you couldn't do that. I didn't realize how many hours went into building this kinda stuff, and how hard it is to really get new trails developed. There is a quote about knowledge that applies to this, but I can't put my finger on it. Not EVERYONE posts on here, and not everyone knows that it is not okay to build these things. You cant put signs up everywhere.

Obviously, this only applies to certain instances. It's clear that some of the people that building rogue stuff know that its illegal. It is also very possible that people don't know that TM's and organizations like JORBA exist.

some times I think people do not realize that it is "someone else's" land they feel it is public property and therefore open to what ever.
it is truly a shame when you read that some parks get closed off due to this type of stuff and if as wclambjr suggested if they come out to any of the number of trail sessions in any of the parks they would learn why this type of stuff hurts us all.
BTW: you might see me on occasion getting some face slappers or pulling a blow down out of the trails just look for the black mary SS and say hey...

let's try not to turn this into a witch hunt the park will deal with the people when they catch them. We should just spread the message and let things work out for them selfs.

Thats the most sensible message yet! Remember its not our land either. We need to be part of the solution, not part of the problem. Just sayin'..............

Great Post Mike, they will either stop because they are now o the radar or they will keep on keeping on and get caught.

It's a delicate matter, because YOU don't have a right to tell them what to do, even though they don't have a right to build on it. You can just supply the dude with knowledge. If he tells you to suck it, you can't do much about it.

Probably just better off not supplying them with anything, and calling the office instead so they get busted :getsome:
